Heat Fall Apart Offensively In Game 3 Loss
Miami fell apart in the fourth quarter as they dropped Game 3 to Philadelphia by a score of 99-79. The Heat trailed 68-65 going into the final frame but were outscored 31-14 in the period to give the Sixers life in the series. Jimmy Butler led Miami with 33 points and nine rebounds while Tyler Herro (14 points) was the only other player to score in double digits.
While the big story of the game was the return of Joel Embiid, it wasn’t the MVP candidate that was Miami’s undoing. Instead, the Heat struggled to get scoring from anyone but Butler, shooting 27-for-77 from the field – a paltry 35.1 percent.
Gabe Vincent (knee), Kyle Lowry (hamstring), Herro (ankle), Max Strus (hamstring), PJ Tucker (calf) and Caleb Martin (ankle) are questionable for Game 4.
76ers Get Back Into Series With Embiid’s Return
Embiid only scored 18 points and 11 rebounds but his surprising return to the lineup seemed to reinvigorate the Sixers, who looked defeated through the first two games of the series without their leader. Danny Green and Tyrese Maxey each scored 21 points to lead Philadelphia in the win.
Although they didn’t score a ton of points, it was a big bounce back performance for Philadelphia’s offense, particularly from long range. The Sixers shot just 8-for-30 from three in Game 2 but went 16-for-33 in Game 3, led by Green who dropped 7-of-9 from beyond the arc.
Embiid (orbital) is questionable for Sunday’s matchup.
Heat vs 76ers Pick & Insights
Heat: Keys to Cover
Miami has prided itself on offensive depth this season but there wasn’t much of that to go around in Game 3 as Butler did virtually all of the scoring on his own. The Heat will need a lot more from Herro, Bam Adebayo, Lowry and company if they’re going to keep a lead in the series.
76ers: Keys to Cover
While Embiid wasn’t as dominant as his usual self, the Sixers got strong performances from Maxey and Green to make up the difference. Embiid’s presence as an offensive threat makes Philadelphia much more dangerous, which should open up more chances for the rest of the offense.
