Potent Offense Keying Timberwolves’ Surge Toward Elusive Playoff Berth
On pace for just their second playoff appearance in 18 years, the Timberwolves decided to stand pat at yesterday’s trade deadline. Minnesota has won 13 of its 20 games since the start of January to soar to seventh in the West, although the Wolves did see a five-game winning streak snapped Wednesday with a 132-119 loss at Sacramento.
Led by the dynamic duo of Karl-Anthony Towns and Anthony Edwards, Minny’s sixth-ranked offense is the biggest reason the Wolves have enjoyed a breakthrough season. Minnesota’s attack has been especially lethal lately, scoring at least 124 points in six of its last 10 games as the Wolves went 8-2 to the OVER during that span. Going back further, Minnesota has gone OVER in 24 of its last 32.
The Wolves do have some injury concerns going into tonight, however, as Edwards, Patrick Beverley and D’Angelo Russell were all listed as questionable at the time of writing. Edwards has been playing through a sore knee for several games while Russell is dealing with a left shin contusion, although he still scored a game-high 29 on Wednesday. Beverley sat out Minnesota’s last game with a right ankle sprain.
Vucevic, DeRozan Helping Chicago Overcome Backcourt Injuries
The Bulls are down to the fourth point guard on their depth chart, but that didn’t stop Chicago from earning a 121-109 win in Charlotte on Wednesday, improving to 5-2 ATS in its last seven games. Coby White recorded just three assists in place of injured 1-guards Lonzo Ball, Alex Caruso and Ayo Dosunmu, but the Bulls still had 27 dimes as a team — led by eight from big man Nikola Vucevic.
Vucevic added 18 points and 16 rebounds for his 13th straight double-double, while DeMar DeRozan continued his red-hot scoring run with a 36-point effort. DeRozan has scored at least 30 points in each of his last four games, including a 45-point outing Sunday against the 76ers.
Timberwolves vs Bulls Pick & Insights
Timberwolves: Keys To Cover
With so many of Minnesota’s top players dealing with nagging injuries, you’ll want to check on their status before making your Timberwolves vs Bulls prediction. The Wolves could create some easy baskets for themselves, however, by forcing Chicago’s backup point guards into turnovers. Minnesota ranks second in the NBA in takeaways per possession at 16.0 percent.
Bulls: Keys To Cover
Led by Vucevic, DeRozan and Zach LaVine, Chicago’s offense is in stellar form and poised to outscore Minnesota in a shootout. The Bulls have cracked the 120-point plateau in seven of their last eight games and might be able to pull away in the second half against a Wolves team playing its third game in four days and fourth in six.
