Timberwolves Drop Second Straight To Trail Blazers
The Timberwolves go into this contest having dropped back-to-back games against the Portland Trail Blazers, most recently falling 133-112 on Monday. Damian Lillard went off for 38 points in just 29 minutes for Portland while Jerami Grant had 24. D’Angelo Russell (23 points) was the only player to score 20-plus for Minnesota while Rudy Gobert had 16 points and 20 rebounds for a double-double.
Minnesota has struggled over the past couple of weeks, losing six of its last nine contests. That coincides with the absence of Karl-Anthony Towns, who’s been out of the lineup since November 30 with a calf injury. The center is averaging 20.8 points per game this season, trailing only Anthony Edwards (22.7) for the highest mark on the team, and is expected to miss another two to four weeks.
Defense Comes Through As Clippers Beat Celtics
The Clippers picked up an impressive win in their last outing, defeating the NBA-leading Boston Celtics 113-93 to earn their second straight victory. Los Angeles held Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum to just 21 and 20 points, respectively, while Paul George (26 points) and Kawhi Leonard (25 points) led the Clips.
While it was a surprise to see the Clippers beat the Celtics, it wasn’t too much of a shock to see them contain one of the best offensive duos in the NBA. Los Angeles has allowed just 108.7 points per game this season to rank fourth-best in the league. The Clips out-rebounded the Celtics 46-36 while forcing 15 turnovers and committing just nine.
Clippers Player Prop: George OVER 27 Points (+108)
George returned to the Clippers lineup on December 5 after missing about two weeks with a hamstring injury and was a bit sluggish out of the gate, scoring just 15 points per game in his first two contests back. Since then, the shooting guard has bumped it up to 30.3 points per game over his last three outings, with his lowest mark being 26 points. Look for George to hit the OVER on 27 points against the NBA’s 27th-ranked defense.
Timberwolves: Keys To Win
With Towns out, the Timberwolves will need everyone to step up and provide just a little more offense, especially against a tight defensive squad like the Clippers. Not counting the sidelined Towns, Minnesota has five players averaging double digits this season – all five of them will need to show up if they’re going to beat Los Angeles.
Clippers: Keys To Win
Against Boston, the Clippers showed us exactly why they should still be considered a legitimate powerhouse: when healthy, they possess one of the best offensive tandems in the NBA in Leonard and George, while also owning one of the top defenses in the league. If Leonard and George stay hot and the team continues to play hard in its own half, the Clips will be tough to beat.
