Timberwolves Take Third Straight Loss vs Heat
The Timberwolves lost their third consecutive game on Monday as they fell 113-110 to the Miami Heat. Anthony Edwards (29 points) led all scorers while Naz Reid (21 points, 11 rebounds) posted a double-double as Minnesota came up just short. Max Strus led Miami with just 19 points but four others finished in double digits for the Heat.
Minnesota has struggled to get much going without Karl-Anthony Towns, who’s been sidelined since November 28 with a calf injury. The Timberwolves have gone 6-7 without their starting center, though D’Angelo Russell has taken a step up in December by scoring 21.1 points per game – nearly five more than his season average.
Banged-Up Pelicans Keep Win Streak Alive
The Pelicans cruised to an easy 113-93 win over the Indiana Pacers on Monday to push their win streak to three games. Naji Marshall had 22 points to lead New Orleans and Jonas Valanciunas added 20 points and 12 boards for a double-double. The Pacers had a rough night on offense as Bennedict Mathurin topped the team with just 15 points in the loss.
It was a good win for the Pelicans, who were without both Zion Williamson (conditioning) and Brandon Ingram (toe) on Monday. While Ingram is still ruled out, the good news is that Williamson has been upgraded to probable for Wednesday’s matchup. The power forward leads New Orleans in scoring this season and has been even better in December, averaging 28.8 points per game.
Timberwolves: Keys To Win
Offense has been hard to come by during their three-game skid, with the Timberwolves scoring just 106 points per game. Edwards has been a man on a mission, leading the team in scoring in five straight contests and seven of the last nine, but he can’t do it all on his own. If Minnesota is going to end the skid, the T-Wolves will need other guys like Russell and Rudy Gobert to put up excellent performances.
Pelicans: Keys To Win
New Orleans is in the hunt for top spot in the Western Conference thanks to an electric offense that ranks third in the NBA (117.8 points per game). The Pellies will be without one of their key offensive pieces in Ingram, but Williamson and CJ McCollum should provide more than enough firepower to take down the Timberwolves.
