As of May 2, the odds of the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers colliding in the NBA Finals were sitting at +423. That wager paid out handsomely for anyone who backed it at that price, as the powerhouses are set to meet in the 2018 Finals for the fourth year in a row.
The Warriors' road to the championship game was a little rockier than normal for the star-studded group, as Golden State found itself in a 3-2 hole to the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference final. But after an injury Rockets point guard Chris Paul, the Warriors stormed back and rattled off two straight wins to advance back to the Finals with a third championship in four years in their sights.
Adversity has been a common theme for the Cavs in the 2017-18 campaign, as Cleveland endured some major struggles in the regular season and entered the playoffs as the four-seed in the Eastern Conference. The Cavs edged the Indiana Pacers in seven games in the first round before sweeping the Toronto Raptors and going the distance with the Boston Celtics in the East final. The Cavs topped the C's in Game 7 of that series, and now LeBron James is participating in his eighth straight title game.
