Pelicans Drop Second Straight In Overtime Loss

The Pelicans lost their second straight contest on Thursday, falling 132-129 to the Utah Jazz in overtime. Jordan Clarkson scored 39 and Lauri Markkanen had 31 to lead Utah, while Zion Williamson (31 points) and CJ McCollum (28 points) were the top scorers for New Orleans.

Williamson has been on a tear in December, averaging just a hair over 30 points per game through his last seven outings. The power forward is averaging twice as much as the team’s next-highest scorer this month as McCollum is at just 15.6 points per game. Still, New Orleans is tied for the fourth-best offense in the NBA at 117.4 points per contest.

Suns Snap Skid vs Undermanned Clippers

The Suns snapped a five-game skid on Thursday as they picked up a 111-95 win over the Los Angeles Clippers. Mikal Bridges led Phoenix with 27 points while four others finished in double digits, including Chris Paul, Jock Landale and Josh Okogie who all recorded double-doubles. Terance Mann (22 points, 11 rebounds) was Los Angeles’ top scorer as both Paul George and Kawhi Leonard sat out.

Defense has been a bit of a struggle for the Suns over the last few weeks with the team allowing 124.6 points per contest during their five-game losing skid. Phoenix bounced back with a tight defensive effort on Thursday against the Clips, but that was without several key players in their lineup.

Pelicans Player Prop: Williamson OVER 31 Points (+122)

The Pellies star has been averaging 30-plus points per game in December and is coming up against a struggling Suns squad that’s giving up buckets in bunches. Look for Williamson to hit the OVER in 32 points in this one.

Suns Player Prop: Bridges OVER 20 Points (+114)

The Suns offense has slowed down in December, but Bridges has stepped up with some big performances, including four 20-plus point outings in his last eight contests. If Phoenix is going to win, Bridges will likely need to hit the OVER on 20 points.

Pelicans vs Suns Picks & Insights

Pelicans: Keys To Victory

Williamson has been a one-man show for the Pelicans over the last couple weeks, leading the team in scoring in nine of their last 11 games. If the big man brings his game again, New Orleans could easily take this one on the road.

Suns: Keys To Victory

The Suns finally ended their losing streak and need to find a way to get their mojo back. The team ranks eighth in the league in points against per game (110.7), so clearly they know how to defend. They’ll have to prove it against the Pelicans, though, if they’re going to pick up another win.
