76ers Look To Continue Post-Christmas Success

The 76ers had their five-game win streak snapped last time out in a 106-103 loss to the Washington Wizards on Wednesday. Joel Embiid led the Sixers with 27 points and 14 rebounds but a clutch block from Kyle Kuzma (24 points) on Embiid late in the fourth quarter proved to be the difference.

After a middling start to the season, the 76ers have turned their season around, going 15-4 since Christmas. Embiid’s dominance has been the driving force behind Philadelphia’s turnaround as the big man has averaged a whopping 35.9 points and 11.8 rebounds over his last 10 games. The key to Embiid’s success has been his consistency and health as he’s missed just one game over that span, for planned rest.

Seth Curry (back) is questionable while Furkan Korkmaz (knee) is out.

Mavericks Try To Bounce Back Without Porzingis

The Mavericks lost their second straight game on Tuesday as they fell 120-114 to the Oklahoma City Thunder in overtime. Luka Doncic dropped 40 points and added 10 assists but couldn’t will his team to victory on a night when the Mavs got 83 of their 114 points from three players.

Like the Sixers, the Mavericks have enjoyed a tremendous amount of success since the holidays, going 13-5 since New Year’s Eve. But unlike Philadelphia, Dallas has cooled off lately with a record of 3-4 over its last seven games. The last two losses have come without Kristaps Porzingis, the team’s second-leading scorer, who remains out for Friday’s contest with a knee injury.

Sterling Brown (foot) and Tim Hardaway Jr. (foot) are also out.

76ers vs Mavericks Pick & Insights

76ers: Keys To Cover

The Sixers’ big three of Embiid, Tobias Harris and Tyrese Maxey have been on fire lately, combining for 67 points in their last outing in what was a relatively quiet night for Embiid. If the all-star center can score 30-plus while getting support from Harris and Maxey again, Philadelphia will be in good shape to pick up another win.

Mavericks: Keys To Cover

Even with Doncic leading the way, the Mavs offense hasn’t been much to write home about, ranking 24th in the league (106.3 points per game). Instead, Dallas has found success by shutting teams down with its third-ranked defense (103.8 points against per game); the Mavericks will need to hone in on Embiid and company on Friday to get back into the win column.
