Embiid To Miss Games 1 And 2 In Miami
The 76ers advanced to the second round in convincing fashion on Thursday as they topped the Raptors 132-97 in Toronto to take the series 4-2. Joel Embiid had a monster performance with 33 points and 10 boards while Tyrese Maxey (25 points) and James Harden (22 points, 15 assists) also scored 20-plus for Philadelphia.
The story for the Sixers, at least early on in this series, will be the health of Embiid. The MVP candidate took an elbow to the face from Toronto’s Pascal Siakam late during Game 6 and suffered an orbital fracture. Embiid will be out for at least the first two games of this series, putting pressure on the 76ers to make some big adjustments as they try to replace the production of their top scorer and rebounder.
Heat Also Dealing With Potential Injury Woes
It wasn’t the most convincing performance for the Heat, but they managed to fend off a late Hawks push to win 97-94 last Tuesday and move on to the second round. Victor Oladipo led the scoring for Miami with 23 points while Bam Adebayo had a double-double with 20 points and 11 boards.
Like Philadelphia, Miami has injury concerns of its own that could have a significant impact in the series. Leading scorer Jimmy Butler missed Game 5 due to knee inflammation and is listed as questionable for Monday. Tyler Herro (illness), Caleb Martin (ankle), Markieff Morris (illness), PJ Tucker (calf) and Max Strus (hamstring) are also questionable, while Kyle Lowry (hamstring) is out.
76ers vs Heat Pick & Insights
76ers: Keys To Cover
The Sixers won’t be able to replace Embiid directly so they’ll have to fill his shoes by committee. Luckily for the 76ers, they demonstrated plenty of depth scoring options in their first-round series as Maxey emerged as a legitimate weapon, especially off the fast break, while Tobias Harris was also a consistent producer. If Maxey, Harris and Harden all have strong games, Philadelphia could take Game 1.
Heat: Keys To Cover
There are plenty of question marks for the Heat heading into Game 1 with so many injuries to key players. One starter, Lowry, is definitely out, while three others plus their most important bench player could also miss the game. Given that it’s the playoffs, most of Miami’s players will likely tough it out, but they’ll need Butler back in the lineup to take down Philadelphia.
