Sixers Reeling After Two Straight Losses
The 76ers played their worst game of the series on Monday as they fell 103-88 in Game 5. Monday marked Philadelphia’s lowest-scoring effort since March 20 – another loss to Toronto. Joel Embiid led the Sixers with 20 points and 11 assists in Game 5 while James Harden had just 15 points.
Philadelphia has looked somewhat disheartened since its first loss of the series in Game 4, and perhaps there’s good reason for the Sixers to be worried. Coach Doc Rivers is 1-7 in his last eight chances to close out a series, while Embiid, who has a wrap on his right hand, is reportedly playing through a ligament tear that will require surgery.
Embiid (thumb) is probable while Matisse Thybulle (eligibility) and Charles Bassey (shoulder) are out.
Raptors Trying to Rally Back From 3-0 Deficit
The Raptors have ramped up their defensive play throughout the series and they demonstrated exactly why they had the seventh-best defense in the NBA this season, holding the 76ers to 88 points on just 38 percent shooting from the field in Game 5. Pascal Siakam led the way for Toronto offensively with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
Toronto will be looking to capitalize on a deflated Philadelphia squad that will surely be thinking about the possibility of blowing a 3-0 series lead. Everyone knows, of course, that no team in NBA history has lost a series after going up three games to none. If the Raptors win Game 6, they’ll have a chance to rewrite the record books.
Fred VanVleet (hip) is doubtful while Thaddeus Young (thumb) is probable.
76ers vs Raptors Pick & Insights
76ers: Keys To Cover
The Sixers need more from all their top dogs, who have struggled to varying degrees through the last two or three games. Embiid is averaging 20.5 points and 9.5 rebounds over his last two contests, while Tyrese Maxey has averaged 11.5 points over that same span after starting the series with a 38-point effort. If Philadelphia is going to win, everyone will need to step it up a notch.
Raptors: Keys To Cover
The series turned for the Raptors when they turned up the defensive intensity. The injury to Embiid has certainly been a factor, but Toronto has also adjusted to make things harder for the MVP candidate. If the Raps can hold the Sixers offense in check again, we’ll likely be headed to Game 7.
