Suns Continue To Find Success Without Paul
The Suns cruised to a big 133-95 victory over the San Antonio Spurs on Sunday to get back into the win column. Deandre Ayton (25 points, 10 rebounds) led the scoring for the Suns as six players finished in double digits for Phoenix. Keldon Johnson (27 points) was the only player to score 20-plus for the Spurs.
Despite being without point guard Chris Paul since early November, the Suns have continued to pick up wins, going 8-4 in his absence. Paul, who’s been sidelined by a heel injury, is listed as questionable for Monday’s matchup.
Cameron Payne has stepped up admirably in Paul’s role, averaging 14.9 points and 6.2 assists through November. Meanwhile, Devin Booker continues to shine – he finished off November with back-to-back 44- and 51-point outings, then started December with a 41-point performance.
Doncic Leads Mavs To Big Win Over Knicks
The Mavericks earned a big win of their own on Saturday, defeating the New York Knicks 121-100. Luka Doncic (30 points) and Tim Hardaway Jr. (28 points) did most of the damage for Dallas while Spencer Dinwiddie (17 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists) fell just short of a triple-double. Julius Randle (24 points) and Immanuel Quickley (23 points) were the top performers for New York.
Doncic has been a one-man show for the Mavs this season, scoring an NBA-best 33.4 points per game. But even with the reigning MVP giving his team phenomenal performances night in and night out, Dallas has struggled to get above .500. Only three other players are averaging more than 10 points per game for the Mavericks, who rank 20th in team offense (110.6 points per game).
Suns: Keys To Win
The Suns offense has been clicking all season, ranked seventh in the NBA even with Paul missing the past month of action. A lot of that success comes down to Booker, who has stepped up his scoring in Paul’s absence. Even if Paul doesn’t return on Monday, Phoenix should be able to outscore a struggling Dallas squad.
Mavericks: Keys To Win
The Dallas offense outside of Doncic has been pretty abysmal this season, so their only chance of keeping up with a high-flying Phoenix team is to lock it down defensively. The Mavericks have done just that for most of the season, allowing just 108.3 points per game – the fourth-best mark in the league. They’ll need to contain Booker while also not allowing other options like Ayton or Payne to have too much space.
