Suns Shut Down Trail Blazers To Finish Off Homestand

The Suns wrapped up their homestand with back-to-back games against Portland, defeating the Trail Blazers 102-82 in their last matchup on Saturday. Phoenix ran away with the game in the first half, outscoring Portland 61-40 to cruise to an easy win. Devin Booker led the Suns with 24 points while Jerami Grant topped the Trail Blazers with just 14.

Phoenix really zeroed in defensively during its seven-game homestand, allowing just 102.4 points per contest. The Suns now rank second in the NBA in points against per game (103.9), behind only the Milwaukee Bucks (101.1). That’s a significant improvement over last year’s mark of 107.5 (10th) – something to keep an eye on as the season progresses.

Sixers Lose With Embiid, Harden Sidelined

The Sixers lost their second straight game at home on Friday, falling 106-104 to the New York Knicks. Philly took an 83-74 lead into the fourth quarter but New York had a 32-21 edge in the final 12 minutes to eke out the win. Tyrese Maxey paced the 76ers with 31 points while Jalen Brunson (23 points) and RJ Barrett (22 points) led the Knicks.

Philadelphia is without its two stars for the time being as Joel Embiid (illness) and James Harden (foot) were sidelined in Friday’s loss. Embiid, who leads the team with 27.2 points per game, is dealing with a non-COVID illness while also recovering from a case of plantar fasciitis over the summer so it’s tough to say which version the Sixers will get when their star center does make his return to the lineup. Harden, meanwhile, is expected to be out for at least a month.

Suns Player Prop: Booker OVER 31 Points (+119)

The oddsmakers are expecting a big game from Booker against a short-handed Sixers squad with the Suns guard getting +119 to hit the OVER on 31 points. Booker is averaging 27 points per game but Philly has been decent defensively at ninth in the NBA (109.2). With the absence of an elite defender in Embiid, though, the Suns guard will have a lot more room to operate and rack up points.

Suns: Keys To Win

The Suns look to be in midseason form already at both ends of the court: the defense has locked in while they have five players averaging at least 10 points per game. Coming up against a depleted 76ers squad, the Suns should be able to have their way and run away with this one.

76ers: Keys To Win

With Embiid and Harden out, a lot of the offensive workload will fall on the shoulders of Maxey. The point guard is averaging 24.9 points per game – second on the team – and has scored 30-plus in four of his last six games, including a 44-point outing against the Toronto Raptors on October 28. If Maxey can step up with another huge performance, the 76ers might have a shot.
