Trail Blazers Extend Win Streak Against Pelicans
The Trail Blazers picked up their third straight win on Thursday, downing the New Orleans Pelicans 106-95. Jerami Grant led the way with 27 points while Anfernee Simons had 23 for Portland. Zion Williamson had 29 points for the Pelicans to lead all scorers in a losing effort.
Portland put its resilience on display in Thursday’s win, earning the victory without Damian Lillard and Jusuf Nurkic – two of the team’s top-four scorers. Nurkic (thigh) is questionable for Saturday’s game in Dallas while Lillard (calf) was rested in Thursday’s game against New Orleans but should be good to go against the Mavs. Lillard is leading the team in points (28.6) and assists (5.1) through seven games played.
Mavericks Lose As Doncic Has A Quiet Night
The Mavs suffered their second straight loss on Thursday as they fell 113-105 to the Washington Wizards. Spencer Dinwiddie had a strong showing for Dallas with a team-leading 33 points while Luka Doncic (22 points, 9 rebounds) finished just short of a double-double. Kyle Kuzma had a monster night with 36 points and 11 boards to lead Washington to the win.
Thursday’s loss marked Doncic’s lowest-scoring outing of the season as well as just the second game in which he finished with fewer than 31 points. Doncic still remains the NBA’s top scorer this year, averaging 33.6 points per game.
Trail Blazers Player Prop: Simon OVER 21 Points (+108)
Simons has been on a tear of late for Portland, averaging 25.6 points over his last five contests – a span that includes two 30-plus point games. The Trail Blazers shooting guard should easily clear the OVER on 21 points during Saturday’s matchup.
Mavericks Player Prop: Doncic OVER 35 Points (+108)
The oddsmakers are expecting a lot out of Doncic on Saturday, and rightfully so, with the Mavericks star getting +108 to hit the OVER on 35 points. Doncic was scoring 36 points per game prior to his last two contests, where he’s averaged just 23. If the point guard can get back to his usual scoring ways, he likely will drop at least 35.
Trail Blazers: Keys To Win
The Trail Blazers have gotten off to a strong start this season thanks to their exceptional defense. Portland ranks third in the NBA in points against per game (106.6), coincidentally just ahead of Dallas (106.7). If they’re going to pick up their fourth straight win, the Trail Blazers will need to keep their intensity up on the defensive end and try to limit the damage that Doncic does.
Mavericks: Keys To Win
You would think the team with the top scorer in the NBA would be a strong offensive club, but the Mavericks have actually been pretty mediocre as a group, scoring just 109.9 points per game (22nd). The Mavs will likely count on Doncic to break through and score 30-plus while they keep things tight on their end and try to win a low-scoring game.
