Portland News & Notes

The Trail Blazers comes into Tuesday’s game riding a two-game win streak, including a 105-90 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers in their last outing on Saturday. Damian Lillard did most of the damage as he dropped 25 points to go along with six assists and three rebounds.

Jusuf Nurkic dominated the paint with 15 points and 17 boards, and the defense held Los Angeles – playing without LeBron James – to just 90 points, the Lakers’ worst offensive showing this season.

CJ McCollum is tops in team scoring at 22.1 points this season while Lillard (18.5 points) and Norman Powell (17.4 points) have been key scorers as well.

Los Angeles News & Notes

After a 1-4 start to the campaign, the Clippers have rebounded with four consecutive wins to get back above .500. They defeated the Charlotte Hornets 120-106 on Sunday as Paul George dropped 20 points to lead the team while adding eight assists and nine boards.

Los Angeles had six players score 14 points or more in the game, offering some much-needed help to George, who has been doing most of the heavy lifting early in the season.

As expected, George leads the Clippers in nearly every category, averaging 27 points, 8.2 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 2.7 steals. Without Kawhi Leonard, who remains out indefinitely following knee surgery, the shooting guard has had to shoulder even more of the load in Los Angeles.

How Portland Will Cover

The dynamic duo of Lillard and McCollum has got Portland up to 110.3 points per game – good for eighth in the NBA. They’ll be facing a stout fifth-ranked Clippers defense (102.56 points against per game) but if the two can pop off for 25-plus points each, the Blazers have a chance to cover and perhaps even win.

How Los Angeles Will Cover

We know that George can dominate a game single-handedly, but the Clippers look even better when they get production from their full five-man unit. If Reggie Jackson, Luke Kennard and company can keep scoring like they did on Sunday, Los Angeles should cruise to its fifth straight win.
