DeRozan Has Keyed the Raptors' Hot Start
The Toronto Raptors have opened their season with a stellar 4-1 record and will welcome the Sacramento Kings to the Big Smoke this evening looking for their fourth straight win and third straight cover.
Much of the Raptors’ success this year has fallen on the shoulders of DeMar DeRozan. He is averaging 35.8 points per game through five games and his team’s only loss this season came when he failed to score more than 32 points.
The Kings have not yet faced an elite shooting guard like DeRozan but they’ve given up 29 points to Evan Fournier and 20 to Dion Waiters in games this year. This could be an absolutely huge day for the back-court duo of Kyle Lowry and Double-D.
Toronto’s main advantage in this one is their low-post defense. Jakob Poeltl has come in and done a gritty job filling in some minutes for the injured Jared Sullinger and the combination of him, Jonas Valancuinas, Patrick Patterson and Pascal Siakam have not allowed a big man, other than Hassan Whiteside, to score more than 20 on them.
If Toronto keeps DeMarcus Cousins from going off, they will likely earn their first win against the Kings in two seasons.
