Spurs vs Mavericks Betting Odds and Pick March 12, 2019

Mavericks Have Been Profitable as Home Underdog

The Dallas Mavericks may be one of the worst statistical teams in the NBA since the all-star break but they certainly know how to reward bettors when tabbed as an underdog at American Airlines Arena. The Mavs are 12-3 ATS in 15 home games this season in that spot and will look to reward bettors again when they host the San Antonio Spurs. The Spurs have been a red flag on the road all season and have dropped seven of their last 10 away games.

The Spurs opened as 5-point faves with a total of 218.5.

STANDOUT STATS

  • The Mavericks are 1-8 SU and 3-6 ATS in nine games since the all-star break. In that span, they’ve allowed 115.1 points per game (rated 20th) while allowing opponents to shoot 38 percent (rated 26th) from three-point range on 37.4 attempts (ranked 28th).
  • Dallas is 9-6 SU and 12-3 ATS in 15 home games as an underdog this season.
  • Luka Doncic is questionable coming into this game with a knee injury. That’s bad news for the Mavs as they’re one of the worst offenses in the NBA since the all-star break. They rank last in the league in points scored (102.9) and 29th in field-goal percentage and 28th in three-point percentage. They’re also 1-3 SU and ATS in four games without Doncic in the lineup, with the three losses coming by double digits.
  • The Spurs are 3-7 SU and ATS in their last 10 road games. In those games, they went 3-1 SU and ATS vs teams below .500 and 0-6 SU and ATS vs teams above .500.
  • In the Spurs’ road games, they’re giving up 8.9 more points per game compared to home games. They allow the same number of three-point attempts in both home and away games but opponents shoot five percentage points better from behind the arc away from San Antonio.
  • The total has gone OVER in 10 of the Spurs’ last 12 games on the road (avg. combined score: 230.75).

My Best Bet for Spurs vs Mavericks

Spurs -5

I’m overlooking the Spurs’ inability to cover the spread in road games mainly because this is a cupcake matchup for them. The Mavericks have been horrendous since the all-star break both offensively and defensively and the trades from earlier this season have gutted the roster to the point that their second-leading scorer is now Dwight Powell at 9.8 points per game. The Spurs have won five straight games with wins over teams like the Thunder, Nuggets and Bucks so playing a team like the Mavs should be a cakewalk.
