Spurs are in Rare Spot as Big Underdogs in Game 6
The Western Conference semifinal series between the Houston Rockets and San Antonio Spurs has been a roller-coaster from the very start, but the Spurs have an opportunity to settle things down and knock out the Rockets in Game 6 which gets underway on Thursday at Toyota Center. Sportsbooks opened the Rockets as 7-point home favorites with a total of 213.5.
All-star small forward Kawhi Leonard left Tuesday’s Game 5 due to an ankle injury but told reporters on Wednesday he would be in the starting lineup for tonight’s contest. Leonard collected 22 points and 15 rebounds in the 110-107 overtime win which gave the Spurs a 3-2 lead in the series.
James Harden is averaging 27.4 points and 10.2 assists for the third-seeded Rockets but was just 4-for-15 from 3-point range in Game 5, which lowered his shooting percentage to 32.1 from beyond the arc. With veteran big man Nene sidelined for the remainder of the playoffs, Houston used only seven players with 3-point specialist Ryan Anderson seeing some rare action in the paint.
Playing in Houston hasn’t been much of an issue for the Spurs, as Gregg Popovich and company are 3-1 SU at Toyota Center in 2016-17 after going 2-0 in the regular season and splitting the two games in the series thus far.
The OVER, which paid out in Game 5, continues to be a very reliable wager when these teams get together. In the last six meetings between the Western Conference heavyweights, the OVER is 5-1.
