Clippers Host Spurs in Key West Matchup
The Western Conference has been mostly a two-team show with the Golden State Warriors and San Antonio Spurs running away at the top since the season began. But while the Los Angeles Clippers are still a long way away from reaching those heights, they did a great job of making their presence felt in the next tier out west.
At online book Sportsbook, the Spurs are tabbed as 5-point favorites for the first meeting between the two clubs at STAPLES Center this season.
The Spurs defeated the Clippers 115-107 as 7.5-point faves when the pair met in Texas back on December 18. That loss started a three-game losing skid that dropped the Clippers’ record to 16-13, but since then, the Clippers have gone 19-5 SU and have been a profitable venture at the betting window as well, going 15-9 ATS during that span.
The Spurs, however, have been the best bet in the NBA this season, taking a 34-19 ATS record into STAPLES Center as the NBA returns from it’s All-Star break. They have had the edge in recent head-to-head meetings with the Clippers as well, posting a 5-2 ATS mark in the last seven meetings (including last year’s playoff series).
The Clippers will continue to be without Blake Griffin, but that doesn’t seem to matter. The team has played it’s best basketball of the season without the forward and considering they’re doing everything they can to secure a top-four playoff spot in the west, it’s tough to bet against them.
