San Antonio Closes Two-Game Set in Utah
Four straight losses have the Spurs (31-33 SU, 35-28-1 ATS) suddenly in danger of falling out of playoff position in the West. San Antonio opened as a 7-point underdog to the league-leading Jazz (47-18, 37-27-1), who rolled to an 11-point win over the Spurs on Monday and have covered the last four meetings.
Sportsbook Odds Analysis
The Jazz opened as 7-point favorites, the same number of points they were favored by when they beat the Spurs 110-99 on Monday. The total also hasn’t seen much adjustment, Sportsbook a point higher than Monday’s meeting.
San Antonio News & Notes
The Spurs’ hold on a top-10 spot in the West isn’t as firm as it was a week ago, thanks to a four-game losing streak against some tough competition. The skid also coincides with an injury to point guard Derrick White, who sprained his ankle during San Antonio’s most recent victory and is expected to miss the rest of the regular season.
Although Dejounte Murray returned from a sore left knee to run the point on Monday, White’s absence may have contributed to San Antonio’s offensive difficulties against the Jazz.
The Spurs struggled to get open shots at the rim, failing to make a single layup until the final minute of the first half, and were cold from the perimeter, missing all seven of their three-point attempts in the Sportsbook 24 minutes. In fact, all but one of San Antonio’s 20 first-half field goals came from the mid-range.
Despite the four-game skid, the Spurs have actually been kind to bettors in recent action, with Monday’s 110-99 loss snapping a 5-0-1 ATS run in San Antonio’s previous six games. The Spurs have also been a solid bet on the road, going 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16, and have covered seven of their last nine following a double-digit defeat.
Utah News & Notes
The Jazz may have taken their foot off the gas a bit after their 20-1 SU surge a couple of months ago, but they seem to be ramping things back up as the playoffs approach, especially at the defensive end.
Monday’s victory over San Antonio marked the seventh time in eight games that the Jazz have held their opponent to 105 points or less, and Utah has gone UNDER the total in six of those eight contests.
Offensively, Bojan Bogdanovic has taken a bigger role with guards Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley sidelined by injuries. The small forward built on Saturday’s 34-point effort against Toronto with 25 points on Monday, the fourth straight game Bogdanovic has led the Jazz in scoring. Rudy Gobert added 24 points and 15 rebounds while Joe Ingles narrowly missed out on a double-double with 13 points and nine assists.
Betting Pick: Spurs +7
The Spurs were in a tough spot Monday, playing one day after losing a tough overtime game at home to Philly, but they should be much more competitive tonight.
