Raptors Look To Pick Up First Win Since All-Star Break
The Raptors lost to the Atlanta Hawks 127-100 on Saturday to drop their second game in as many nights. Trae Young went off for 41 points and 11 assists for Atlanta while Fred VanVleet led Toronto with 24 points and nine assists.
Toronto normally prides itself on defensive structure, ranking 10th in the league this season (107.5 points against per game). However, the Raptors have given up 125 and 127 points in their two contests since returning from the all-star break. Head coach Nick Nurse will want to get his team back to basics against a Nets squad that shouldn’t be too threatening offensively.
VanVleet (knee) and OG Anunoby (finger) are questionable for Monday.
Irving’s Big Performance Helps Nets Shock Bucks
The Nets picked up a surprising win on Saturday as they beat the Milwaukee Bucks 126-123 on the road. Kyrie Irving had a season-high 38 points while Seth Curry and Andre Drummond added 19 and 17 points respectively for Brooklyn. Bobby Portis had 30 points and Giannis Antetokounmpo 29 to pace Milwaukee.
Despite being without both Kevin Durant (knee) and Ben Simmons (conditioning), the Nets have picked up three wins over their last five games, with their most recent victory being perhaps the most impressive of the season. This weekend it was revealed that Durant is eyeing a return sometime within the next week, which will obviously be a huge boost to a team still fighting for a playoff spot.
Irving (eligibility) will miss Monday’s game.
Raptors vs Nets Pick & Insights
Raptors: Keys To Cover
The Raptors need to hone in on their defensive game, which shouldn’t be too hard given that the Nets will be without all three of their stars. Offense has also been somewhat hard to come by for the Raps, who rank 19th in the league (108.3 points per game). They’ll be expecting a big game from Pascal Siakam, especially if VanVleet is out.
Nets: Keys To Cover
The Nets don’t have a lot going for them without Durant, and that’s magnified without Irving. On the plus side, they have found a way to win games of late even without both players, evidenced by a couple of victories over the Sacramento Kings and New York Knicks before the all-star break. It’ll take heroic efforts from players like Curry and Drummond but it’s possible they can pick up another surprising win.
