Leonard, Clippers Favored To Avenge Loss vs Utah
The LA Clippers seek revenge for last week’s 110-96 loss in Utah when they host the Jazz Sunday night at Staples Center. Kawhi Leonard sat out last week’s clash, but he’ll be back in action Sunday for the Clips. Utah has covered seven of its last eight visits to LA.
Sportsbook Odds Analysis
The opener of Clippers -4.5 was a 12-point adjustment from when LA visited Utah last week as 7.5-point dogs — without Leonard, of course. There’s been little early movement on the spread, but the OVER has seen some early support and moved up to 213 by Saturday night.
Utah News & Notes
Friday’s 102-101 loss in Sacramento reinforced one thing for the Jazz right now: they haven’t been nearly as good on the road as they’ve been at home. Not only was that game the first time this season that Utah has allowed 100 points, but it also dropped the Jazz to 0-3 ATS on the road — a strong indication that they’re underperforming on the highway. Prior to the loss to the Kings, Utah lost 95-86 at the Lakers and squeaked out a 96-95 win over the Suns in Arizona.
Slow starts have been a problem in enemy territory, with Utah digging itself a 10-point hole after the first quarter in Sacramento and trailing by seven through the Sportsbook frame against LA.
Defensively, however, Utah looks rock solid after going OVER the total in each of their preseason games. The Jazz leads the NBA in scoring average allowed (94.0) and has gone UNDER in all six games thus far.
Los Angeles News & Notes
So far this season, the Clippers have looked a lot like their prized free-agent acquisition Kawhi Leonard: efficient. Los Angeles leads the NBA with a 49.6 shooting percentage from the field and its 114.2 points per game ranks 11th despite the Clips falling to the bottom half of the Association in pace.
Leading the way, to no surprise, is Kawhi. The two-time NBA Finals MVP is averaging 29.2 points per game and dropped 38 points on his former team, the San Antonio Spurs on Friday. In the one game he has sat out, the visit to Utah, the Clippers struggled badly. LA turned the ball over 20 times and the bench struggled after Lou Williams, normally the team’s Sixth Man began the game in the starting lineup.
Betting Pick
Neither of these teams plays at a high pace and I’m expecting a lot of defensive intensity in the second meeting this week. I’m on the UNDER.
