Ohio State vs Michigan State Odds & Picks Week 5: Chiles Isn't Ready, Buckeyes To Cover

Ohio State opens up Big Ten Conference play as the Buckeyes (-24.5), packing their lowest spread of the season, visit the Michigan State Spartans. Looking to continue their eight-game streak against the Spartans, where they've also covered in seven-straight, the Buckeyes truest test thus far really shouldn't be that hard.

The question isn't a matter of will the Buckeyes win, it's how much will they win by?

Ohio State vs michigan State Picks – Week 5

Did I mention that Ohio State's last seven wins over Michigan State were by at least 20 points? Ryan Day's offense hasn't gotten any weaker, outscoring opponents 157-20 through three outings this year.

Gearing up for kick-off, QB Will Howard is holding his own with nearly 800 passing yards and recording at least two touchdowns in every appearance this season. However, with 543 yards and nine touchdowns combined, it's the backfield duo of Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson that's been a pain for anyone who faces the Buckeyes.

Michigan State allowed 152 rushing yards to Boston College in its most recent performance. But, using the Spartan's results against Florida Atlantic, Maryland, FCS' Prairie View or Boston College isn't helpful -- Ohio State is just on a whole other level.

Given the weaker opponents, I think Michigan State's reputation is massively inflated. Giving up four turnovers to the Eagles last week shows the Spartans are starting to unravel as their schedule adds more pressure.

Ohio State vs michigan State News

Being a starting quarterback isn't for the weak and Aidan Chiles is clearly realizing that. The sophomore, who has been intercepted seven times already, has struggled in his first season starting under center. While visiting Boston College, the California native was picked off three times. Not all fingers are pointed at Chiles, as his offensive line has also allowed him to be sacked five times, too. Facing off against Ohio State, which coughs up the second-fewest 181.7 YPG, will suffocate Chiles behind the line of scrimmage more than ever before.

Ohio State vs michigan State Prop Bet: Ohio State -13.5 First Half (-118)

Across their three meetings, the Buckeyes have posted a minimum of 17 points going into halftime. Shockingly, Marshall did give Ohio State a run for its money in Week 4, cutting the first-half lead to 14 points. But, once Ryan Day realized he may have discounted the Thundering Herd's offense after a tied first quarter, the Buckeyes went on to rally 21 points in the second quarter.

Whether it's an easy task or there's adversity to overcome, I trust Ohio State's ability to pull off a strong opening half.
