Panthers Season Preview

2024 Carolina Panthers Season Preview & Odds: Can Young Take A Jump?

It's really hard to be optimistic when looking at the 2024 Carolina Panthers season preview and odds. They were the worst team in the the NFL last season and didn't even get the first overall pick out of it (because they traded the selection to Chicago).

But, maybe there's a bit of upside in this Carolina squad? I'll dive into all the 2024 Carolina Panthers season long betting odds and our best bets below to find out:

I'm not even sure it's worth discussing the Panthers' Super Bowl odds. I'd bet most of my vital organs they don't win the title this season. The one bright side for Panthers fans? They don't have the very worst Super Bowl odds in the NFL, as that award goes to the +30000 Patriots.

If there's one of these major markets I'm even a little interested in it's the NFC South odds. Carolina spent all offseason adding offensive talent, drafting Xavier Legette in the first round, trading for Diontae Johnson, and adding on the offensive line. The entire season hinges on those additions helping second-year QB Bryce Young take a massive step after his awful rookie season.

If everything (and I mean everything) goes right, I could see the Panthers making a little noise in a pretty weak South division. It's not hard to see the Saints sucking, the Bucs taking a step back with an aging roster, and the many moves Atlanta made this offseason just not working (that's kind of the Falcons' story lately). If all those facets click, maybe the Panthers can squeeze out an NFC South title with nine wins. I wouldn't say it's likely.

2024 Carolina Panthers Win Total Odds

Odds as of September 6

This 5.5 win total is really low, but it’s still asking the Panthers to make a four-win improvement to hit the OVER. Looking at the recent history of the worst teams in football, though, that path to a significant jump exists.

The Jaguars improved from three to nine wins from 2021 to ’22 and the Bears jumped from three to seven victories from ’22 to ’23. Can the Panthers follow the trend? Having the 11th-easiest schedule in football should help.

For your game-to-game bets, it's hard to see the Panthers being as bad of a spread and OVER team this year, with all their additions on offense. Also, one thing to keep in mind is when RB Jonathan Brooks comes back from injury in a few months. He was my favorite back in the draft class and could change this Panthers offense when he's finally healthy. Even if Carolina starts slow, I'd start targeting the Panthers ATS once Brooks enters the fold.

2024 Carolina Panthers Playoff Odds

Carolina Panthers Playoff Odds

+470-700

Odds as of September 6

Carolina's +470 odds imply a 17.54% chance the Panthers will make the playoffs. Frankly, I think it's lower than that. I don't see many paths to Carolina playing in the postseason.

But, I also don't think these -700 miss odds are very worthy value. I'd say the smart thing to do with these Panthers miss the playoff odds is to toss them in a parlay. I've combined three miss-the-playoff locks in the Panthers (-700), Giants (-520), and Patriots (-2200) to form a much more reasonable -236 payout.

2024 Carolina Panthers NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Odds

PlayerOdds
Bryce Young+15000

Odds as of September 6

If you, for some reason, believe that Young is set for a big year-two jump, I don't hate these +15000 odds. But, honestly, I don't think he has an MVP season in him this year. Even if Young triples his touchdowns and halves his interceptions from last year (posting a 30:5) season, that still doesn't make him an MVP lock.

The only Panthers award odds I'm eyeing are Xavier Legette to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year (+12000) and Dave Canales to win Coach of the Year (+1600).
