This honestly might be my most cowardly bet of the season. With all of Los Angeles' injuries (see the news section below) I think there's a good chance the Chiefs run away with this game.
But, at the same time, the success of underdogs across the league lately scares me. And, the Chargers have been a top-five defensive team in both points and yards allowed this year, so 8.5 points is a lot to cover for KC. Patrick Mahomes hasn't been as good as you think he has this year. Despite leading NFL MVP odds, the Chiefs QB is averaging just 219 yards per game this season (with four interceptions, too). Mahomes also has surpassed this 259.5 passing yards mark in just one of his last five regular season games, per Outlier betting trends.
Plus, Mahomes plays a Chargers defense that has been great against the pass this season. LA is allowing just 175.3 yards per game.
I also think the game script could work in our favor here. If the Chiefs get out to an early lead against an injured LA squad, they'll be running the ball plenty in the second half.
