UFC 286: Vettori vs Dolidze Preview
Let’s scope out some value.
What Vettori Does Well
Vettori is the king of bull-like forward momentum. “The Italian Dream” has a granite chin and is unafraid of taking a bit of punishment to gain fortuitous positioning. Dolidze can crack a good hook, but Vettori should be safe with his regular strategy.
That’s why Marvin is in good shape in this fight. Dolidze is a crafty grappler, but Vettori has strong wrestling as well. Vettori is far better at defending takedowns, though there’s a good chance both guys land a trip or two in this bout. Either way, Vettori should control this three-rounder.
What Dolidze Does Well
The Georgian is riding a three-fight win streak, and his best chance is to box his way to victory. Marvin gets a little repetitive inside the Octagon and the Italian’s striking is pedestrian at best. Dolidze can win this fight by stoppage, but he’ll have to get lucky.
Dolidze is quicker than Vettori and can explode out with devastating hooks and knees. It’s likely Vettori grinds this fight to a slow pace, but if Dolidze finds a rhythm, he can win via volume or by finish.
Vettori vs Dolidze Pick
Despite Dolidze’s exciting style, I like Marvin to win by decision. He’s more experienced, having gone the distance with Robert Whittaker and Paulo Costa, so I don’t think Dolidze breaks him.
Pick: Vettori by decision (-115); fight to go the distance (-165)
