Cubs, BoSox Start Massive Interleague Series Friday
A battle between two of the marquee franchises in baseball is set to take center stage when the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox start a three-game series Friday. The Cubbies bring a stellar 8-4 road record to Boston to take on a Red Sox team that dropped its past two at Fenway.
The Cubbies will open the set by sending ace Jake Arrieta to the bump. Arrieta has been solid so far this season but has had some issues with the long ball, as he has given up four home runs in his past two starts. That being said, he also recorded a season-high 16 swinging strikes in his most recent outing.
Drew Pomeranz will make his fourth start of the year after Sportsbook the campaign on the DL. The lefty has struggled in his past two starts by surrendering 10 hits, seven earned runs and three home runs in just 9.2 innings of work. However, Pomeranz does have a stellar track record in limited appearances against the Cubs with a 1.13 ERA in three career starts against Chicago.
The Red Sox desperately need to find their bats, as Boston has averaged just 1.9 runs while hitting 5-for-42 with runners in scoring position in the past seven games. A couple of the Cubs’ bats have been slumping lately but that can’t be said for Kris Bryant. After a rocky Sportsbook to the season, Bryant has gone 13-for-33 with eight runs during his current eight-game hitting streak.
