Cubs in Good Position to Win Ninth Straight

Well don’t look now but the Cubs have gotten hot and the whole league is in trouble. They won their series opener vs the Angels last night and will send Jason Hammel (11-5, 3.07 ERA) to the mound tonight in search of their ninth straight win. Ricky Nolasco (4-8, 5.23 ERA) will get the starting opportunity for the Angels and will look to redeem himself to the Anaheim fans after a rough first start.

SHARK BITES
  • The total has gone UNDER in 20 of the Cubs' last 25 games after consecutive wins.
  • The Angels are 3-9 in their last 12 games against the NL Central.
  • The Angels are 2-11 on the runline in their last 13 games after losing the previous game in a matchup.

Nolasco got beat up by the Athletics in his first Angels’ start and could be in some serious trouble vs one of the most dangerous lineups in all of baseball.

Hammel has won four straight starts for the Cubs and is coming off a performance in which he hurled six scoreless innings. He has not allowed more than two runs since he was blown up by the Mets at the start of July. The veteran righty has been a little worse on the road this year but still has respectable numbers with a 5-4 record and a 3.80 ERA away from Wrigley.

The Cubs are a heavy favorite in this one and I see no value in betting against them tonight. If you’re looking for action, though, check out the Cubs’ runline as our computer has them winning by over four runs.
