Sportsbook Odds

The Yankees opened as the road favorite for Game 3 at -115 on the moneyline with the Guardians getting +105 at home. The total was set at 6.5 runs with the UNDER going 5-2 in New York’s last seven contests. New York has won eight of the last 10 meetings at Progressive Field, suggesting the visitors may be the smart choice in your Yankees vs Guardians prediction.

Starting Pitchers

The Yankees will hand the ball to Luis Severino for Game 3 as the right-hander makes his first start of the postseason. Severino’s last outing was a gem – a scoreless, hitless seven-inning performance against the Texas Rangers on October 3. Severino posted a 7-3 record along with a 3.18 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP over 102 innings.

Triston McKenzie will make his second start of the postseason following a six-inning shutout against the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 2 of the AL Wild Card Series. McKenzie had an 11-11 record with a 2.96 ERA and a 0.95 WHIP over 191.1 innings this season.

New York’s Offense Falls Flat In Game 2

Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run homer in the first inning but the Yankees failed to score again as they fell 4-2 to the Guardians in extra innings on Friday. The offense managed just six hits in the ballgame while Jameson Taillon, who came in to pitch in the 10th, took the loss after allowing three hits and two earned runs without retiring a batter.

New York’s offense has been on a bit of a downswing since the last week of the season, averaging just 2.71 runs per game over the last seven contests. Aaron Judge is yet to record a hit in the series at 0-for-8 through two games.

Extra-Innings Win Helps Guardians Tie The Series

Oscar Gonzales was the hero on Friday for the Guardians as he knocked in the eventual game-winning run with an RBI single in the 10th before Josh Naylor added some insurance with an RBI double. Shane Bieber was solid in his start, allowing five hits and two earned runs over 5.2 innings.

The Guardians will be happy to have split the first two games with the Yankees as they’ve got a chance to take control of the series at home. Cleveland is also hitting New York 15-11 through the first two contests so you could even argue they’ve been the better team so far.

Yankees Player Prop: Torres OVER 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBIs (+105)

Torres went 0-for-3 in Game 1 but showed signs of life in Game 2 with two hits and a run scored. If the Yankees second baseman can build on that momentum heading into Game 3, he should be a lock to hit the OVER on 1.5 combined hits, runs and RBIs.

Guardians Player Prop: Ramirez OVER 1.5 Total Bases From Hits (+140)

Ramirez has already three hits (two doubles) in the series for a total of five bases. If the Guardians slugger can keep up that level of production, he’ll clear the OVER on 1.5 total bases easily on Saturday.

Yankees vs Guardians Picks & Insights

Yankees: Keys To Victory

The Yankees have had a slow start offensively in this series and that falls on their big bats. Anthony Rizzo and Stanton have two RBIs apiece, but Judge, Gleyber Torres and Josh Donaldson have yet to drive in a run. New York needs the big bats to wake up if they’re going to retake the series lead.

Guardians: Keys To Victory

The Guardians have had solid pitching through the first two games of the series which has helped them keep the Yankees offense at bay. If McKenzie can give them five or six strong innings, Cleveland could take the lead on home turf in Game 3.
