Kansas City Royals Ben Zobrist

World Series Game 1 Betting Preview

The New York Mets and Kansas City Royals are both in the World Series, and that is pretty much where the similarities end. The Kansas City Royals immerged last season as the darkhorse to become one of the most dominant teams in baseball this season. The New York Mets surprised many by winning the NL East over the surprisingly stale Washington Nationals.

Shark Bites
  • Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes will play in Game 1, despite not being 100 percent.
  • The Mets and Royals have only met three times this decade, with KC winning a three-game series 2013.
  • Mets 2B Daniel Murphy has hit a home run in six consecutive games.

The Royals have made their way back to their second consecutive World Series thanks to a combination of solid, yet unspectacular pitching, and small ball. Kansas City was third in baseball in batting average and second in hits during the regular season, but finished 24th in home runs.

Despite a career that has spanned 11 years and six different teams, Edinson Volquez will be making his first ever start in the World Series Tuesday. The Royals have turned to Volquez in hopes that he can produce a good outing, as he's been marred by inconsistencies this season.

The Mets put the MLB on notice when they opened the season 13-3, including an astounding 10-game winning streak within the first three weeks of the season. New York has made it this far on the back of their young pitchers and an offense that has gone off the rails after the All-Star game.

There were concerns about Matt Harvey’s performance in the postseason with so much press around his innings-limit in the regular season, but those were unheeded. The Mets Game 1 starter is 2-0 with a 2.84 ERA and 16 strikeouts so far this postseason.
