Grizzlies Blown Out By Mavs

The Grizzlies had their perfect start to the season snapped Saturday as they were whipped 137-96 by the Dallas Mavericks. Dallas came out flying, outscoring Memphis 39-17 in the first quarter, and the Grizzlies never recovered. Luka Doncic led the Mavs with 32 points and 10 boards while Ja Morant was the Grizzlies’ top scorer with 20 points.

Saturday’s loss will be one that Memphis wants to forget quickly, though it shouldn’t take away from the team’s start to the season. Morant in particular has been stellar, dropping 34 and 49 points, respectively, in his first two contests. The star point guard has made eight three-pointers through his first three games after averaging just 1.5 per contest last season.

Irving, Durant Lead Nets To First Win Of 2022-23

The Nets picked up their first win of the season on Friday, edging the Toronto Raptors 109-105. Kyrie Irving (30 points) and Kevin Durant (27 points) led the way for Brooklyn as usual, while Pascal Siakam (37 points, 12 rebounds, 11 assists) was a one-man show for Toronto, dropping a triple-double in the loss.

Ben Simmons’ return to play will continue to be a big storyline for Brooklyn throughout the season. The guard, who missed all of last season with a back injury, is averaging just five points to go along with 7.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists through his first two games.

Nets Player Prop: Irving OVER 6 Assists (+102)

Irving is averaging exactly six assists per game so far and has hovered right around that number for his entire career at 5.7 over 613 contests. Memphis currently owns the worst defense in the NBA, allowing 123.7 points per game, so Irving should have plenty of chances to hit the OVER on six assists.

Grizzlies Player Prop: Morant OVER 32 Points (+117)

Morant was held to just 20 points in his last outing but averaged 41.5 through his first two games of the season. Brooklyn has also allowed 117.5 points per game through its first two contests – the 10th-worst mark in the league – so Morant could feast again and hit the OVER on 32 points.

Nets: Keys To Win

The Grizzlies are the stronger team on paper but the Nets still possess a better one-two punch in Durant and Irving. The duo flexed their offensive muscles in Friday’s win as they combined for 57 points. If they can replicate that performance, Brooklyn could pick up its second straight victory.

Grizzlies: Keys To Win

Morant has been far and away Memphis’ top dog through three contests, averaging 34.3 points per game – nearly 20 more than Desmond Bane (14.7), who ranks second on the team. The Grizzlies will need Morant to keep it up but they’ll also need more from the rest of their starting lineup if they’re going to have success.
