Pacers Take First Of Back-To-Back Meetings With Nets

The Pacers beat the Nets 125-116 on Saturday in their first matchup of back-to-back meetings. Bennedict Mathurin went off for 32 points to lead Indiana while Tyrese Haliburton added 26 as the Pacers drained a franchise-record 23 three-pointers. Kyrie Irving (35 points) and Kevin Durant (26 points) did their usual thing for the Nets but had little support offensively, with only two others finishing in double digits.

Mathurin, the Pacers’ sixth overall pick in this year’s NBA draft, has gotten off to an impressive start in his rookie campaign. The shooting guard is averaging 21 points per game in less than 28 minutes of floor time. Mathurin trails only Orlando’s Paolo Banchero (22.7 points per game) in rookie scoring so far.

Nets Hold Players-Only Meeting Following Loss To Pacers

Saturday’s loss marked another setback for the Nets, who have not gotten off to the start they imagined. The team reportedly held a players-only meeting following the game as Brooklyn dropped to 1-5 on the season and sits 14th in the Eastern Conference ahead of only the Orlando Magic (1-6).

While Durant and Irving have gotten off to strong individual starts, averaging 32 and 30.5 points per game, respectively, the team as a whole has been just mediocre offensively and abysmal defensively. The Nets are averaging 113.5 points per game – 18th in the NBA – while allowing 122.2 points per contest, which ranks 29th ahead of only the Detroit Pistons (122.8).

Pacers Player Prop: Haliburton OVER 20.5 Points (-115)

Haliburton has taken a heavy workload early this season, playing more than 33 minutes per game, the most of any Pacers player. The point guard has also been hot, scoring at least 24 points in five of seven contests. Against a weak defensive team in Brooklyn, Haliburton should hit the OVER on 20.5 points.

Nets Player Prop: Durant OVER 30.5 Points (-125)

If the Nets are going to have any chance to get back into the win column, it’ll likely be on the backs of Durant and Irving. Durant has scored 32 or more in four of six games this season. Look for the Nets star to hit the OVER on 30.5 points on Monday.

Pacers: Keys To Win

The Pacers relied on exceptional three-point shooting in Saturday’s win, led by Mathurin (6-for-9), Haliburton (6-for-10) and Buddy Hield (5-for-11), who all shot over 45 percent from beyond the arc. With Durant and Irving coming into Monday’s matchup motivated, the Pacers will need both Mathurin and Haliburton to keep up the pace.

Nets: Keys To Win

While Durant and Irving have been shooting the lights out, the Nets have still struggled in the early going due to their porous defense. Unless someone else on Brooklyn can step up and help their top duo offensively, the Nets will need to find a way to bear down defensively to stop the bleeding.
