Los Angeles Lakers vs. Phoenix Suns Expert Picks
After seemingly recovering from their respective calf strains, both Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal are expected to be back in the lineup on Tuesday for Phoenix after missing the last seven and five outings, respectively. Their returns couldn't come at a better time as the Suns are 1-6 SU without Durant this season, with the team's strong start now evaporated at a 9-7 record SU which places them seventh in the Western Conference.
They already own a victory over the Lakers at home this season, having prevailed 109-105 on October 28 with both Durant and Beal available. This came days after falling 123-116 to Los Angeles at Crypto.com Arena, with the stakes now being higher as Phoenix needs a win to keep pace in West Group B with the Lakers sitting atop a perfect 2-0.
The Suns have failed to cover the spread in each of their last seven home games, with the only successful cover being their home opener on October 26 versus the Dallas Mavericks. Los Angeles has also dropped its last two games SU after riding a six-game winning streak and will look to avoid losing three in a row SU for the first time since January of last year.
That's part of the reason why I'm siding with the underdog Lakers here. Saturday's collapse to their sworn nemesis in the Denver Nuggets was a harsh dose of reality, and as offensively gifted as both Durant and Beal are, they'll need to shake off some rust before hitting high gear. In an effort to accumulate more units with more upside, bet Los Angeles as the underdogs.
UNDER 234 Total Points (-110)
With both sides being particularly strong in the OVER/UNDER market, with Phoenix hitting an OVER at 10-6 and the Lakers not too far behind at 9-7, it's easy to see why we should be leaning one way here.
However, four of the last five games between these teams have gone UNDER, and the Suns are about to reincorporate two vital pieces back into the fold. Offense should be plentiful, but not enough to exceed 234 total points.
Los Angeles Lakers vs. Phoenix Suns Player Prop
Rui Hachimura OVER 1.5 3-Pointers (+102)
Rui Hachimura only just returned to the Lakers following a five-game absence with an ankle sprain, scoring 10 points in 22 minutes of action against Denver. The number we're looking at closely, though, is his made 3-pointers, and he did convert a pair in the blowout collapse, marking the fifth time in his last six appearances that he's done so.
Phoenix ranks fourth from the bottom in opponent's 3-point efficiency at 37.7 percent, and Hachimura is already converting exactly half of his shots from behind the arc this season, having made 20 of 40. He doesn't take an abundance of shots from distance, but when he does, Hachimura makes them count.
