Clemson’s ATS Struggles to Continue vs Boston College?
Clemson has yet to face a serious test this season, but that doesn’t mean the Tigers don’t have things to work on as they host the Boston College Eagles on Saturday. Clemson (6-0 SU, 2-4 ATS) disappointed betting backers yet again after struggling to pull away from Syracuse last time out but will look to get things righted against a plucky Eagles team (4-2 SU, 4-2 ATS).
Editor’s Note: Clemson announced Thursday night that quarterback Trevor Lawrence has tested positive for COVID-19 and will not play Saturday vs Boston College.
Sportsbook Odds Analysis
Oddsmakers are back on the Tigers train this week, making Clemson a whopping 31.5-point favorite. That line hasn’t moved at most sportsbooks and neither has the Sportsbook total of 59.5.
Boston College News & Notes
The Eagles have played just one poor game so far this season, and that impressive stretch of football is reflected in both their SU and ATS records. Boston College rebounded nicely from a 40-14 clunker against Virginia Tech, racking up 409 total yards in a 48-27 victory over Georgia Tech despite being flagged 10 times for a whopping 102 yards.
For Boston College to have any shot at pulling off the upset – or even keeping things competitive – the run game will need to be front and center. The Eagles put up an incredible 264 rushing yards in the victory over the Yellow Jackets, averaging 6.0 yards per carry on the day – but that could very well have been an outlier for a team averaging a dismal 3.0 YPC for the season.
Clemson News & Notes
With the announcement that Heisman Trophy favorite Trevor Lawrence is in isolation and will sit out Saturday’s contest, true freshman D.J. Uiagalelei is expected to start at quarterback against the Eagles. Uiagalelei, who ranked among the country’s top players in his recruiting class, has completed 12 of 19 passes for 102 yards in limited duty while rushing eight times for 32 yards and two touchdowns.
Bettors will be keeping an eye on Travis Etienne (as will daily fantasy players) on Saturday. Etienne helped Clemson put the game away last week with a pair of fourth-quarter TDs, and should be a highly owned DFS option Saturday against an Eagles run defense allowing an average of 165.3 rushing yards per game.
Betting Pick: Boston College +31.5 (-110)
The Eagles have looked mostly impressive this season, while the Tigers have played stretches where you wonder if they’re just killing time until the College Football Playoff. We recommend the visitors and the points.
