Buffalo vs. Liberty: Bahamas Bowl picks
Welcome to the end of bowl season. If you have survived with a few bucks in your wallet, congrats, if you're swimming in red ink, maybe we can help. Not exactly a primo matchup in the last bowl game, but there is money on the table to scoop up.
Buffalo finished the season with an 8-4 record, closing strong with four straight wins for first-year head coach Pete Lembo. If you're not familiar with Lembo, he was the special teams coordinator at the University of South Carolina, and in 2022, he had the highest-rated special teams unit in college football. They also have a kid at QB, C.J. Ogbonna, who has been rocking the party. C.J. has thrown for 11 TDs in his last three games.
On the Liberty side, there have been a ton of issues with the transfer portal and opt-outs. Starting QB Kaidon Salter has already signed on the dotted line with Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes. That means Ryan Burger will get the start at QB. As for players that have entered the portal, head coach Jamey Chadwell stated that players in the portal WILL NOT play in the bowl game and he still expects some more kids to opt out.
If you're interested in the Flames backup at QB, Burger, we can tell you that he was at Appalachian State for two years and completed an eye-popping total of 11 connects. He got into four games for Liberty this season, and once again, another eye-popping total, four connects in seven attempts. He could be the MAN, or he could just be another man, we don't know.
You've probably seen the line move from an open of Liberty -2.5 to Buffalo now -1.5. So, you know that the oddsmakers, wise guys, and sharps are all reading from the same playbook.
So, we're thinking that the kids from Buffalo, where they had like NINETEEN feet of snow this winter, are gonna be JACKED to get some sun. CIRCLE the wagons, BABY!
Pick: Buffalo -1.5
