Hawaii, Cal Kick Of NCAAF Season In Australia
The college football season kicks off when the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors and Cal Golden Bears take to the field in Sydney, Australia. Both of these teams have some tempered expectations entering the season with Hawaii bringing in a new head coach and Cal looking to replace Jared Goff – who had been their starting quarterback for the past three seasons.
Hawaii axed Norm Chow after the coach led the team to an 11-39 record in four seasons. Former Warriors’ QB Nick Rolovich was brought in to try to rejuvenate a once-potent offense that averaged just 192 passing yards per game last season. Luckily for Rolovich and Hawaii, the team is returning 10 offensive starters – including four along the offensive line.
Cal is going to be hard-pressed on offense this season, as the team not only lost Goff, but also their top six receivers. Texas Tech transfer David Webb will be the starter at QB after he posted some good numbers with the Red Raiders before an injury saw him replaced by Patrick Mahomes. The defense isn’t in much better shape, as Cal’s D is returning just five starters from last season – three of which are in the secondary.
