Dillon Gabriel and Oregon Ducks featured in our Oregon vs Purdue picks and odds

Oregon vs Purdue Odds & Picks Week 8: Be Wary Of Ducks' Spread

All aboard the Oregon hype train! Now undefeated and undisputed, the Ducks are the real deal. Dillon Gabriel hushed the doubters, pulling off the 32-31 upset over Ohio State last week. Both the ground attack and passing game shared responsibilities to get yardage. That versatility should thrive up against Purdue's bottom-feeder defense, giving up 514.6 yards per game.

The question isn't whether Oregon (-27.5) will win on Friday against Purdue. But rather, do they have what it takes to cover their largest spread of the season?

Keep in mind, Oregon is 0-3 ATS when favored by 20-points or more. Since I'm lacking confidence in the spread area, I'm going to pivot instead to bet the OVER on the point total.

Oregon vs Purdue Picks – Week 8

The Boilermakers are comfortable on the underdog side of the spread, just recently covering their first 20-plus point line last week. Oregon can't say the same -- like I mentioned, having yet to cover a line of 20-points or more.

One thing us bettors can't deny is that Purdue's defense is a mess. They gave up 556 total yards to Illinois last week and sulk as a bottom-five defense in the nation. Pair that up against an offense that is efficiently earning 460.6 yards per game. That offense just needs to stay humble. By that, I mean don't pull an Alabama and get cocky after an exciting ranked win to only inevitably suffer one of college football's biggest upsets the following week.

Gabriel and the rest of his crew should have another big game to cement themselves as an offensive threat. There's still a chance Purdue somehow sneaks a score or two. So, betting on the OVER at a doable 58.5-points is the safer bet here.

Oregon vs Purdue Week 8 Pick: OVER 58.5 Points (-115)

Oregon vs Purdue News

Ahead of Week 8, Hudson Card's status remains up in the air. It was reported the senior was put into concussion protocol and was unable to start in Purdue's visit to Illinois. As of Tuesday, there is still answer whether Card will return to the field.

In his absence, Ryan Browne fell short in the 50-49 overtime defeat to the Fighting Illini. The redshirt freshman threw 297 yards and three touchdowns while also sprinking in 118 rushing yards. It was Purdue's tightest matchup this season and marked the first time the Boilermakers covered an underdog spread (+22.5).

Oregon vs Purdue Prop Bet: dillon gabriel anytime TD (-120)

Dillon Gabriel has hit the OVER on 0.5 touchdowns in 4 of his last 5 games, averaging 0.8 interceptions/game according to Outlier. The senior etched his name on the scoresheet against bigger and badder teams this year, including in the thrilling win over Ohio State.  Against a defensively deficient opponent this week, finding the endzone should be much easier for him.
