Product Review: Outlier

Outlier is a great option if you enjoy betting on sports and finding useful edges that can help you win more bets. Hundreds of thousands of sports bettors have utilized Outlier to compare betting lines, extract useful analytics, find arbitrage betting opportunities, and see actionable insights. 

There are two options for Outlier subscriptions: “Premium” and “Pro.” Premium is the standard package ($19.99/mo.) which has fewer bells and whistles than Pro ($129.99/mo.). Both options provide users with real time injury reports, odds comparisons, line movement tracking, advanced data, and trending insights. A limited time free trial is also available.

The Pro version, which is geared toward serious bettors, provides additional features like a list of Positive EV bets, an arbitrage tool and a list of bet boosts at various sportsbooks.

How to Use Outlier

In the upper right corner of the Outlier app, you can easily select which sportsbook apps you bet with. For instance, if you typically wager at FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars and Bet365, then check those boxes which display your favorite app’s betting opportunities. As Outlier shows intriguing wagers at one of your sportsbooks, click it and you can seamlessly execute your bet in a few clicks.

For instance, Outlier’s “Insights” section pointed out that, “Justin Jefferson has exceeded the 26.5 yard longest reception prop in five straight games.” By clicking that display, you’ll see which of your favorite sports betting apps has this prop available and place the wager at one or all of them very quickly. Adding your preferred sportsbook also helps Outlier to display the best available line from all of your sportsbooks.

Outlier Pro Review

As the name implies, Outlier Pro is geared more toward professional bettors. Sharp bettors logging into Outlier Pro for the first time will see familiar terms like Devig, “Kelly” (Kelly Criterion), Arbitrage, EV (Expected Value).

If you’re unfamiliar with these terms, then you’re probably better suited for Outlier Premium because the pro version could be intimidating or confusing to a casual bettor. However, Outlier Pro does provide a “Learn” tab with information about these concepts.

The EV+ option in Outlier Pro provides a long list of positive EV options which saves bettors a lot of time hunting for games and lines that offer good value. Keep reading to see what my experience was like using Outlier Pro.

Outlier Premium Review

Outlier Premium is geared more for recreational bettors who are looking to gain an edge and increase their win %. For new users getting the hang of Outlier, I recommend clicking your favorite sport at the top of the screen and then selecting “Games” at the bottom. Upcoming matchups in your selected sport appear with a ton of valuable data and the best available lines. Click the individual teams to unveil more layers of data that can be broken down into player props, team props, and game props. 

Outlier has an app and desktop version and can be used to gain an edge while betting the following sports: NFL, NCAA football, NCAA basketball, NBA, WNBA, MLB, and NHL. Several different soccer leagues will be added to Outlier this fall as well. 

Outlier Strengths & Weaknesses

My experience with Outlier

My Outlier experience was very positive and I found both tools (Premium and Pro) to be well worth the money.

In Outlier Pro, the “Arbitrage” and “Middle Bets” tools are tremendous and honestly a ton of fun as I find myself refreshing the tab regularly looking for arb or middle opportunities whenever I have the app open. The EV+ tab displays a long list of positive EV bets across several sports with the EV math done for me. I found the “Boosts” tab to be a great way to stay abreast of promotional opportunities without logging into each of my individual sports betting apps. 

I had a great experience with Outlier Premium too. As someone who enjoys betting NFL props, I really enjoyed the target share feature within a players profile which can be broken down by redzone targets. This type of information can be valuable for bettors who enjoy anytime TD props or those examining the impact of certain injuries.

My only words of caution with using Outlier is that bettors should use critical thinking skills while analyzing Outlier’s trends, rather than blindly following trends. For instance, after we learned 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey was injured, props for his backup RB Jordan Mason appeared in the app with trends related to Mason’s recent performances. However, Mason’s recent games when he was a backup are much less relevant to his current situation so those trends should be taken with a grain of salt. 

Improvements To Outlier

Since Outlier’s iOS launch almost two years ago, it’s evolved and changed in a number of ways. The company is growing extremely fast and new features are added regularly based on feedback from users.

There are times when new features are announced as only being available on the web version of Outlier and coming soon for app users. I recommend users get comfortable with both versions of Outlier in case you fall in love with a new feature that’s not available on the app yet.

Outlier’s History

Users who enjoy Outlier can thank a lesser known product called Colorcast for paving the way for Outlier’s success. Colorcast, a social sports talk app, was launched by Outlier CEO Evan Kirkham in 2019 as a way to connect sports fans with alternative announcers during sporting events.

Colorcast partnered with major sportsbooks to offer relevant data related to oddsmakers lines. As it turns out, there was a strong appetite amongst sports bettors for the unique nuggets Colorcast was providing. Outlier’s operating system launched in January of 2023 and quickly became a favorite amongst novice and advanced bettors.
