Ian Garry is favored over Geoff Neal at UFC 298

Shavkat vs Garry Odds & Picks: A Clash Of Undefeated Fighters

The Shavkat vs Garry odds put everything at stake at UFC 310 into perspective. Shavkat Rakhmonov was supposed to fight for the UFC welterweight title, but after his opponent dropped out due to injury, Ian Machado Garry, a fellow undefeated youngster, stepped up.

Now Rakhmonov is a -400 favorite for his fight vs Garry, who comes back as the +300 underdog. This will be an epic co-main event for UFC 310, as the winner likely gets the next title shot vs champ Belal Muhammad. The public is crushing Rakhmonov as a bet — he opened at -275 and is now a 4-to-1 favorite.

How To Bet Rakhmonov

Shavkat's claim to fame is his impressive stoppage streak. "Nomad" has secured six consecutive UFC wins, five by submission and one by KO. He's the most terrifying finisher in the welterweight division right now, and maybe second only to Khamzat Chimaev in the hype category for UFC prospects.

Rakhmonov is the real deal, but he may not have it as easy vs Garry, despite what the odds suggest. While Garry is nowhere close to the finisher Shavkat is, the Irishman is a talented grappler who has been training in Brazil for a while now. He'll resist many of Rakhmonov's grappling advances, leaving big chunks of time for striking.

That said, Rakhmonov by submission is still the way to go. Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson outstruck Shavkat at UFC 296 until Nomad entered the clinch. It was game over after that. If Shavkat wins, Garry will suffer a similar fate, though perhaps not until later in this fight.

How To Bet Garry

Garry has softened on his stance as the UFC's newest heel, perhaps because his last few performances haven't been very exciting. Garry enters the Shavkat fight coming off three consecutive decisions. There wasn't much to take away from any of those matchups, other than his grappling holds up against other strikers.

Rakhmonov will want to test Garry's grappling, but the Irishman has five rounds to work with, so even if Shavkat pins him for an entire round, he can recover.

I expect this to be a very hesitant fight because that's what Garry does to people. Opponents are scared of his long reach and quick hands. I'm very much in on Garry ML, but I also love a flier on him to win by decision.

Shavkat vs Garry Picks

I think Garry will surprise people in this fight. He may slow the pace down and make things technical, but that's probably his best chance to win, and it's hard to blame the fella for it.

Garry is my underdog ML bet, and I'll also take the OVER 2.5 rounds.

Pick: Garry (+300); OVER 2.5 Rounds (-160)
