What You Need To Know About The KBO

Originally, the first pitch of the KBO regular season was set to fly in late March, but the coronavirus pushed that start date to early May. There are 10 teams that compete in the KBO and each team plays 144 games.

During the regular season, each team will play the nine other teams 16 times leading to the playoffs. The top five teams advance for a shot to win the championship in a ladder-style tournament. The lowest seeds have to win to advance, while the top seed has a direct berth into the KBO Korean Series aka the championship series.

Last season, the Doosan Bears won the league championship, marking the fifth straight year they have either won or been the runner-up. That said, the KIA Tigers have won the most titles at 11, most recently winning in 2017.

You will have to be an early riser if you want to watch the action, though, as most games are scheduled to air at 1 a.m. ET on Sundays, 4 a.m. ET on Saturdays and 5:30 a.m. ET for the majority of the other games.

How To Bet On the KBO

Much like you make a bet on MLB, there are essentially two ways of betting on the KBO. You can place a futures bet on which team will win the KBO Korean Series, or you can get in on the action with daily games.

For daily wagers, the options are identical to MLB with runlines, moneylines, totals, five-inning lines and first-inning totals. The runline will typically be separated by one run, either -1 or +1, which opens the door for a PUSH in a one-run game.

Odds To Win KBO Korean Series

As mentioned above, the Doosan Bears are the reigning champions after sweeping the Kiwoom Heroes in four games in the Korean Series. The Bears had a bye to the Korean Series after finishing the season with an 88-55-1 record. That record tied with SK Wyverns but the Bears were ranked ahead after winning their head-to-head series. 

Heading into the 2020 campaign, last year’s top two teams, the Bears and Wyverns, were atop the oddsboard to be the top two teams this season.
