Expert Pick: Philadelphia 76ers ATS +2.5 (-108), ML (+122)

Several key names were absent in each team's opener, as Anthony Edwards and Julius Randle sat out of Minnesota's 124-107 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers last Friday, while Joel Embiid and Paul George didn't compete in the Sixers' 139-84 win versus the NBL's New Zealand Breakers.

Embiid will remain out as his knee continues to be evaluated, although George will make his preseason debut on Friday on the road. The status of both Edwards and Randle remains unknown as of writing with both listed as game-time decisions.

Assuming the injury report remains intact, and that the Timberwolves could be without two starters, we'll roll with Philadelphia here as the underdogs after it just dropped 139 points in a preseason game, albeit against competition from an outside league. Rookie Jared McCain, Reggie Jackson, and Olympic standout Guerschon Yabusele each scored 15 points that night, and will likely see big minutes once again with head coach Nick Nurse giving his starters a break.

The Timberwolves' second unit were no slouches either against the Lakers as no starter played more than 10 minutes, but the advantage still goes to Philly here with George and Maxey lining up together and Edwards' status especially continuing to be up in there.

Expert Pick: OVER 223 Total Points (-110)

Again, all we can do is work with a limited sample size, but this game features two of the top-five scoring teams this preseason and two of the three best shooting teams from the perimeter. Each side converted at least 15 3-pointers opening the preseason and shot better than 40 percent from the arc.

With defense continuing to be non-factor as only six teams are containing opponents to fewer than 100 points per 100 possessions, we could be in store for another barnburner on Friday with both teams comprised of several efficient marksmen and plenty of talent still gunning for roster spots on opening night.
