Orlando Magic vs. Los Angeles Lakers Expert Picks
Los Angeles Lakers ATS -4.5 (-110), Moneyline (-194)
During this ongoing six-game winning streak, the Lakers have ranked third in offense (122.9 points per 100 possessions), second in 3-point efficiency (40.9 percent), and sixth in net rating (8.9), although only two of their victories came against teams with winning records.
Nonetheless, the offense is currently firing on all cylinders, with the dynamic duo of Anthony Davis and LeBron James getting contributions from the likes of Austin Reaves (18.5 points) and rookie Dalton Knecht (17.3 points) throughout this streak. Facing the Magic would have served as one of their toughest challenges to date, but not having Paolo Banchero available due to an oblique injury and getting Orlando on no rest following its 11-point loss to the Los Angeles Clippers hinders the upcoming challenge to an extent.
The Lakers are a perfect 4-0 SU in 2024-25 when favored at home by 4.5 points or more, but just 2-2 covering the spread under those circumstances with two-straight failed covers. The Magic, though, are just 1-2 SU on no rest, and winless with an 0-4 record SU and ATS on the road when underdogs by that margin or greater.
Orlando's scoring attack ranks third from the bottom since Banchero got hurt, and having just played the night prior, there simply won't be enough in the tank offensively to keep up with Los Angeles' weapons on Thursday.
UNDER 217 Total Points (-110)
For all of the reasons mentioned above and then some, even with the Lakers putting up points in bunches as of late, the limitations of the Magic's current rotation on tired legs, paired with the fact that their 6-10 in the OVER/UNDER market is one of the worst in basketball, makes an UNDER wager here more sensible.
Orlando Magic vs. Los Angeles Lakers Player Prop
LeBron James UNDER 1.5 3-Pointers Made (+112)
It's not that James couldn't connect on two or more 3-pointers, but with his teammates in Reaves and Knecht riding a wave of momentum from behind the arc, the four-time Most Valuable Player will likely be seeking them out on the perimeter more so than taking his fair share of outside shots.
The Magic also rank first in opponent's 3-pointers made (11.4) and attempted (32.1) over the last 11 games, as well, and at plus money, it's worth a bet to suggest James will be held in check in this aspect of his game.
