Expert Pick: Golden State Warriors ATS -2 (-106), ML (-130)
Golden State has been one of the staples of preseason play so far, winning its first four games including its last two by an average of 14 points. The reigning champion Boston Celtics are the only other team with a flawless record, and now the Warriors will look to finish a perfect 5-0 against a 1-2 Lakers squad which currently ranks in the bottom third of the Association in both offense (102.8 points per 100 possessions, 20th) and defense (107.5 points allowed per 100 possessions, 21st).
Los Angeles is coming off an impressive 107-102 victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Thursday who had both Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard back in the lineup. It did, however, give up an average of 121 points in prior losses to the Phoenix Suns and Minnesota Timberwolves, so a flawed defense could and likely will rear its ugly head again.
Not having Brandin Podziemski in the lineup on Tuesday is a blow to the Warriors, as the sophomore guard suffered a broken nose against the Detroit Pistons. At the very least, veterans Stephen Curry and Draymond Green will return versus the Lakers after sitting out that win over Detroit. Andrew Wiggins will also make his preseason debut and be on a minutes restriction between 15 and 20 minutes.
A narrow two-point spread essentially means Golden State simply has to win straight up, and when one side is undefeated, logic dictates leaning in that direction. Los Angeles has more players averaging 10 or more points this preseason, but it has immense difficulty defending the perimeter sitting 29th in opponents' 3-point percentage, and that's where the Warriors thrive.
Expert Pick: OVER 215.5 Total Points (-108)
With an OVER/UNDER total set at a safe 215 points, Golden State has surpassed that mark in only one of its four wins this preseason, while the Lakers have done so in two of their three outings.
For added context in favor of an OVER wager, though, in four regular season encounters during the 2023-24 campaign, both the Warriors and Lakers toppled this number every single time, bottoming out at 238 points. These two rosters light up the scoreboard whenever they stand opposite of one another, and this game should be no different.
