Arkansas vs Oklahoma State Odds & Picks Week 2: Cowboys Unbeatable At Home

It’s tough to beat Oklahoma State in Stillwater, where the Cowboys are 28-5 outright over the past five seasons. Mike Gundy’s team looks to continue that trend Saturday against Arkansas, which enters as a 7.5-point underdog after slogging through a 4-8 campaign in 2023.

Both teams eased into Week 1, with the Razorbacks pounding Arkansas-Pine Bluff 70-0 and the Cowboys dispatching reigning FCS national champion South Dakota State 44-20. Arkansas is on a three-game skid ATS against FBS opponents, though the Hogs did cover in all four road games they played last year.

The Cowboys covered in seven of their final 10 games last season behind Ollie Gordon, the nation’s leading rusher with 1,732 yards from scrimmage. He’s back, as is most of the offensive line that paved the way for him last season. The problem was that Oklahoma State also gave up an average of 430 yards per game, 13th-worst in FBS football last year. Sometimes that resulted in clunkers like a 33-7 no-show against South Alabama or a 43-3 loss at Central Florida.

Arkansas lost its best player, quarterback KJ Jefferson, to the transfer portal, and brought in Taylen Green from Boise State to take his place. Green is more of a passer than the dual-threat Jefferson, which means the Hogs must see improvement from an offensive line that gave up the most sacks in the SEC a year ago. There are also questions on defense, which allowed 36 or more points in each of its final four games in 2023.

But for its occasional missteps, Oklahoma State has been the far more consistent program, is at home, and will have the best player on the field in Gordon. The Pokes are 12-7 ATS at home in non-conference games the last five years, and Arkansas doesn’t have the luxury of being a double-digit underdog—which helped it cover in outright losses last season at Alabama, Ole Miss and LSU.

Arkansas vs Oklahoma State Week 2 Pick: Oklahoma State -7.5

The Razorbacks’ issues on defense led Arkansas to go OVER the total in each of its final four games last season. Oklahoma State was something of a mirror image in that department, going OVER in three of its last four and six of its last nine. Add in the presence of Bobby Petrino as Arkansas’ new offensive coordinator, and the OVER is once again in play this week.

Arkansas vs. Oklahoma State Prop Pick: Both teams to score 25+ points (-105)

Did we mention that neither team was great defensively last season? Both defensive coordinators remain in place, Arkansas’ two leading tacklers hit the transfer portal, and the Pokes had a starting corner leave. This is a matchup of teams that each allowed opponents an average of 28 points per game last season, and it begs to turn into a shootout.
