Utah vs Oklahoma State Odds & Picks Week 4: Utes First Big 12 Conference Matchup

Welcome to the Big 12, Utah. The recent Pac-12 transplant is a 2.5-point road favorite in its first conference game in its new league, Saturday against an Oklahoma State squad that’s scoring more than 42 points per contest.

The Utes have failed to cover in their first two games against FBS competition, beating 14.5-point underdog Baylor by 11 (in a nonconference game) and 20-point underdog Utah State by 17. The Cowboys, meanwhile, enter at 2-0 ATS versus FBS teams—they needed overtime to cover against 7.5-point underdog Arkansas and then blew out 17.5-point underdog Tulsa on the road last weekend.

Utah vs Oklahoma State Picks – Week 4

The big question in this matchup involves the condition of star Utah quarterback Cam Rising, who injured a finger on his throwing hand in the second quarter of the Week 2 victory over Baylor. Freshman Issac Wilson stepped in and threw for three touchdowns against Utah State, but clearly, the Utes would prefer to have their best player behind center for a battle of ranked opponents in Stillwater.

On that front, signs early in the week were positive. Utah receiver Dorian Singer told media in Salt Lake City on Monday that Rising would play against the Cowboys, according to KSL-TV.  That would be a notable development from a sports betting standpoint, given that Utah covered in 8 of the 13 games Rising started for Utah in 2022, his most recent full season before redshirting the 2023 campaign with a knee injury.

Clearly, this is a situation that sports bettors should keep abreast of throughout the week. If Rising’s injury really was minor (as Utes coach Kyle Whittingham indicated after the Baylor game) and the quarterback does start at Oklahoma State, it’s easy to like a Utah team that combines a smash-mouth line of scrimmage attack and explosive skill-position players as well as any program in the nation.

Utah vs Oklahoma State Week 4 Pick: Utah -2.5 (-110)

Of course, Oklahoma State also plays its own brand of explosive offensive football behind tailback Ollie Gordon and quarterback Alan Bowman. The Pokes have put up 44, 39 and 45 points in their first three games respectively, and went OVER the total against Arkansas in their lone contest against a power-conference opponent so far. Utah is better defensively, but its offense is also more potent with Rising behind center.

Utah vs Oklahoma State Week 4 Pick: OVER 52 (-108)

Utah vs Oklahoma State Prop Pick: Brennan Presley Anytime TD (-110)

Gordon may be the workhorse of the Oklahoma State offense, but Presley is rapidly becoming Bowman’s favorite target. The senior receiver has caught touchdown passes in all three of the Cowboys’ games so far and even rushed for a score in the comeback victory over Arkansas. His 23 catches lead Oklahoma State, and his four TDs are tied with Gordon for most on the team to date.
