Cam Ward's Hurricanes are favored in the Wake Forest vs Miami odds

Wake Forest vs Miami Odds & Picks Week 13: Wake Can Keep It Close

Cam Ward's Hurricanes welcome the Wake Forest Demon Deacons to the U for a Week 13 matchup. Miami's laying a big number this week as FanDuel has set the line at -24.5 (-115) and the total at 64.5 points.

Before we lay down the pick, gotta give you some numbers from their last meeting. OOPS! They actually have not played since 2013, so any numbers or stats would really have no bearing on this game. Different teams, different coaching staffs.

Wake Forest vs Miami Pick Week 13

Wake Forest +24.5 (-105) at FanDuel

NO DOUBT who the winner is gonna be here. Miami should post a W, but there's always a doubt about the GINORMOUS 24.5 point spread. Lets roll. Who had Miami on their bingo card with a 9-1 record going into week 13? Not me. The Hurricanes were coming off two lackluster seasons under Mario Cristobal, with a combined 12-13 record. And now they're No. 11 in the AP Top 25, but even more impressive, No. 9 in the College Football Playoff Rankings. Why? What? How?

Two words, Cam Ward! This kid is still in the mix for the Heisman Trophy at +1400 but he has dropped down into the third slot behind Travis Hunter (-250) and Ashton Jeanty (+400). And the reason is his last game against Georgia Tech which turned into a 28-23 loss. Still, Ward's numbers this season have been off the charts, certainly better than any other QB on the college board. He has completed 241 of 361 (66.8%) for 3,494 yards (best in the country) with 32 TDs and just 6 INTs. Sweet stats for sure, but the Hurricanes rushing game is the problem, on both sides of the ball. They picked up only 88 yards against an average Georgia Tech team two weeks ago, while allowing the Yellow Jackets to rumble for an enormous 271 yards.

Sure Miami came into the Tech game with a gorgeous 9-0 record, but really didn't play a top shelf team all season. And against the average teams, kinda like Wake Forest, they have been giving up points by the bushel. Not sure how many points are in a bushel, but they let Duke on the board for 31 points, Louisville ripped 'em for 45 points, California posted 38 and Virginia Tech scored 34.

Then we looked at Wake Forest's scores and with the exception of games against Top 25 teams, Ole Miss and Clemson, the Demon Deacons have been competitive. They lost to Virginia by one, 31-30, Louisiana by three, 41-38, California by 10, 46-36, and North Carolina by just seven, 31-24.

So, is the pick Wake that needs two more wins to get bowl eligibility, or, Miami that would advance to the ACC title game with two more wins? Before you pull the trigger, ya gotta check on Wake's No. 1 QB Hank Bachmeier and his status. Bachmeier was hurt against the Tar Heels last week and left the game early, completing 10 of 14 for 68 yards. Michael Kern took over and was not quite the answer. Kern hit on 14 of 23 for 172 yards, with 1 TD and 2 INTs. If Hank is slinging, then we will drop some medium range coins on Wake, but if it's a can of Kern, then we might wash the bet or, look the other way.
