Understanding Liga MX Odds
When you check out any soccer sportsbook, you’ll see Liga MX betting odds displayed like this:
CF Monterrey -120
Club América +190
Draw +230
We use American (-500) odds but you can select Decimal (1.20) or Fractional (1/5). Bettors in Europe and Australia gravitate to decimals, whereas people in the U.K. are more inclined to use fractions. As for those in North America, they tend to stick with their namesake odds.
Let’s unpack the numbers themselves. These are typical straight-up (moneyline) odds. The club with the minus sign (-) is the favorite. The club with the plus sign (+) is the underdog. The draw is neither the fave nor the dog but another betting option.
At -120, oddsmakers predict that MON has a 54.55 percent chance of winning the match. At +190, AME has a 34.48 percent shot at a victory. At +230, there’s a 30.30 percent possibility of a tie.
If you were to bet $100 on the draw and the game did end that way, you’d get a payout of $330 – your original money is returned along with your winnings of $230. That same $100 on an AME triumph would give you $290 – you get your $100 back, coupled with your loot of $190. Finally, $100 on a winning MON team would give you $220 ($100 + $120).
You don’t have to bet $100. You can wager any amount you desire. Please visit our Odds Calculator to see what you’d get based on the odds and amount bet.
How to Use our Soccer Betting Handicapping Pages
Liga MX betting is easy if you let us guide you. Our goal – pun intended – is to turn you into a soccer betting guru, or at least someone who can look at odds and know exactly what to do with them.
Consensus: How is the Public Leaning?
The betting public can be used as a test to help shape your bets. Our Consensus data shows you the percentage of people taking each side of the bet. This information comes from various top-rated sportsbooks from around the world and you can use it to your advantage.
If you’re looking at Tigres UANL vs Cruz Azul and the totals line is set at 2.5, you may be unsure if you should back the UNDER or OVER. Let’s pretend that in the past, these two clubs have averaged two goals against each other in their last five meetings. The public is heavily supporting the OVER with the assumption that there will be more than four combined goals scored. If you were on the fence, you can use this information to cement your bet.
You don’t have to bet with the public. You can go against the consensus. This is called fading and can work in cases where the betting lines are very close or EVEN.
Free Picks, Scores and Schedules: Need Help with your Bets?
Going beyond the typical matchup you’ll see at sports news outlets, our Scores page features more than, well, scores. We give you game information, schedules and a look at how each club performed head to head in the past.
In terms of picks, our computer data gives you the expected score for each Liga MX game along with the predicted ATS Sportsbook. If you’re having trouble deciding which club is going to cover the spread, our free predictions can give you a hand.
Standings: How is Each Club Doing?
Knowing where a team sits in the standings is one thing, but knowing how they fare against the rest of the league is more important. Our page gives you a club’s overall record, and home/away record. Plus, you get their points, form, goal differential, home goals for/against, and away goals for/against.
Soccer Betting Types
We’ve already mentioned the moneyline, but there are more Liga MX betting options you can choose from.
Totals: This is a bet on the combined score from both clubs (like in the Consensus example). The oddsmakers come up with the lines prior to the matchup, and you need to decide if the collective number of goals will be more (OVER) or less (UNDER) than what’s predicted.
Point Spread: This bet gives an advantage to the underdog and puts the favorite at a disadvantage before the match. For instance, if Atlético San Luis (-1.5) is playing Tijuana (+1.5), Los Tuneros would need to win by two or more goals to cover the spread. On the other hand, Los Xolos would need to win outright or not lose by more than one goal.
Asian Handicap: This bet is a more advanced version of the spread. You can get half (0.5), quarter (0.25) or full (1.0) lines. Of course, a team can’t score half a point, but with the Asian handicap you have the advantage of getting some of your bet refunded. Check out our tutorial for an in-depth explanation.
Props: These are bets on the occurrence or non-occurrence of certain player or club milestones that don’t necessarily correlate with the outcome of the game. You can bet on things like how many yellow cards a team will receive, penalty kicks, and how many goals Player X will score.
Parlays: With parlays, you can bundle multiple bets on one ticket. You can take Pachuca vs Juárez straight up with Veracruz vs Atlas spread and the totals for Necaxa vs Querétara. Moreover, you can create a cross-sport ticket that includes Liga MX, NFL, MLB, NBA, NHL or any other games that take place concurrently.
Futures: These are bets you can make weeks or even months in advance of the tournaments. Futures odds are released early and if you can get a team at plus money (+) before their lines shift to minus money (-), you could be looking at a major payout if your bet hits.
Live Betting: In-play wagering lets you bet on a match while it’s unfolding. Live odds disappear fast, so if you see action you like, it’s best to jump on it before it’s too late.
