To say CM Punk’s first foray into mixed martial arts was a dud might be an understatement. After the UFC spent endless months hyping up the former WWE champion, CM Punk – real name Phil Brooks – was dispatched with relative ease by Mickey Gall.
Since then, Punk has slowly faded away from the public consciousness but his return to the Octagon is rapidly approaching. CM Punk vs Mike Jackson is set to happen at UFC 225 in Chicago, Punk’s hometown.
With this bout the only one that makes any sense, betting odds have hit the board for Punk vs Jackson. Jackson opened as a healthy -250 favorite with Punk coming back at +195.
Though Jackson is also 0-1 as a professional, “The Truth” has been training in various martial arts since 2008 and has plenty of amateur experience. Of course, Jackson has been calling for the Punk bout since he was reportedly set to face off against the Chicago native in his first MMA bout. Jackson ultimately fought Gall instead with the Sportsbook going on to face Punk.
Punk has continued to train at Roufusport in Milwaukee in hopes of having at least one more fight. UFC president Dana White told the Associated Press that Punk would get at least one more fight in the organization.
