Kansas City Chiefs players, coaches and fans are certainly happy that they prevailed 32-29 against the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game on Sunday night to make their third straight Super Bowl.
But one bettor in Las Vegas also had to be feeling pretty good... because he wagered $1.3 million at Caesars Palace back on Monday, Jan. 20 on the Chiefs to win the game at -130 odds. And when Patrick Mahomes took one final kneeldown, another close Kansas City victory was complete and the bettor was able to exhale and cash his $1 million ticket.
It was a game that featured five lead changes and was tied with 6:15 left to go in the fourth quarter, so it was certainly quite a sweat for the bettor.
“We took a large wager at Caesars Palace on Monday on the Chiefs moneyline at -130”, Joey Feazel, head football oddsmaker at Caesars told Odds Shark. “Outside of that big wager, action is pretty much split. A little more money on the over than the under, which makes sense given these two offenses.”
The game did indeed finish well over the closing total of 49.5 points.
Patrick Mahomes improved to 9-1 in his career as a favorite of 3 points or less (or an underdog) in the postseason, while Josh Allen still hasn’t won consecutive games as an underdog in his career.
The Chiefs opened as 1.5-point favorites in Super Bowl LIX against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night, with a few sportsbooks already moving to Kansas City -2.
