Philadelphia 76ers vs. Los Angeles Clippers Expert Picks
Philadelphia 76ers ATS +1.5 (-110), ML (+100)
Philadelphia blew a golden opportunity on the road Monday night against the Phoenix Suns in what amounted to a 118-116 loss, with Devin Booker struggling (3-of-18 from the field) and Kevin Durant sealing the victory with a driving layup with 24 seconds remaining. It was the 76ers' third loss in a row, dropping them to 1-5 SU for the second-worst overall record in the conference.
George had a humdrum performance in his first action of the campaign, turning the rock over six times while shooting 4-of-14 from the field and 1-of-7 from behind the arc for 15 points in 32 minutes. He'll likely bounce back against his former team in what should be a revenge game for the nine-time All-Star, especially considering the Clippers were reluctant to add a no-trade clause or a fourth year to an aging wing in contract negotiations.
Los Angeles is a respectable 4-2 covering the spread, while Philadelphia is just 2-4. However, a returning George makes a world of difference to the Sixers' offense, which relied far too heavily on Tyrese Maxey with Joel Embiid also sidelined. The Clippers actually rank seventh across the Association in defense at 109 points allowed per 100 possessions, but that number dips to 111.2 points and 15th overall when competing at the Intuit Dome.
At plus money on the moneyline, taking Philadelphia on the road with the upside of an above-average George box score with a small spread is the road best travelled.
OVER 218.5 Points (-110)
Only the Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks at 7-1, respectively, currently have better OVER/UNDER records than the Sixers who are 5-1. Their offense only ranks 26th overall with 108.1 points scored per 100 possessions, and when factoring in a pedestrian defense sans Embiid and tamer total props from oddsmakers, it's easy to understand this record.
That's why I'll be taking the OVER here, as Philadelphia just dropped 116 points on Phoenix's sixth-ranked defense away from home, proving its capable of getting buckets against stout competition.
Philadelphia 76ers vs. Los Angeles Clippers Player Prop
Norman Powell OVER 20.5 Points (-110)
Rather than lean on a George prop for what's only his second game back in the lineup, especially when his OVER on 20.5 points only has -135 odds, we'll trust the more reliable hand in Norman Powell when his scoring has been as consistently strong as its been.
Powell has gone OVER 20.5 points in five of his seven outings this season, and is averaging a team-high 25 points on 50 percent shooting and 48.7 percent from three-point range over his last four games.
