Mavericks Looking Good With Doncic Back In Action
The Mavericks took a 3-2 series lead on Monday with a commanding 102-77 win over the Jazz. Luka Doncic posted a double-double with 33 points and 13 rebounds while Jalen Brunson scored 24 for Dallas. The Mavs’ top-ranked defense lived up to its billing as it held the Jazz to their lowest total of the season.
Doncic has been on fire for Dallas in his two postseason contests since returning from a calf injury. The star guard is averaging 31.5 points – the highest of any player in these playoffs – to go with 11.5 rebounds per game.
With a victory tonight, Dallas can win its first playoff round since 2011, the year the Mavericks won their only NBA championship.
Jazz Offense Comes Up Short In Game 5
The Jazz had a rough game on Monday as only two players – Jordan Clarkson (20 points) and Rudy Gobert (17 points) – hit double digits in a big loss. Utah shot under 38 percent from the field and went just 3-for-30 from beyond the arc.
Utah has had success in the lower-scoring games of the series, picking up 99-93 and 100-99 wins in Games 1 and 4, respectively. Donovan Mitchell has been the team’s offensive catalyst throughout the series, averaging 30.3 points per game through the first four contests before scoring just nine in Game 5.
Mitchell (quad) is probable for Thursday’s matchup.
Mavericks vs Jazz Pick & Insights
Mavericks: Keys To Cover
With Doncic back in the lineup, the Mavs are back to full strength and looking dangerous. Brunson has also been dynamite in the series with 28.6 points per game – up over 12 points from his regular-season average of 16.3. If that duo keeps scoring, Dallas likely advances.
Jazz: Keys To Cover
Mitchell had an off-night on Monday with just nine points and he’ll obviously need to be a lot better for the Jazz to stay alive. If he can get back up around the 30-point mark while getting some secondary scoring help from Clarkson and Bojan Bogdanovic, Utah could force a Game 7.
