Lakers Look To Win Big Vs Slumping Pistons
The Los Angeles Lakers (10-11, 7-14 ATS) host the Detroit Pistons (4-15, 9-10) on Sunday at Staples Center. The Lakers are 2-5 over their last seven games while the Pistons have lost five straight.
Sportsbook Odds Analysis
The Lakers opened as 11-point favorites on their home court over the visiting Pistons. The total was set at 216.5 points with the UNDER going 6-2 in Los Angeles’ last eight games. The Lakers are 1-4 ATS in their last five contests while the Pistons are 4-2 ATS in their last six outings.
Detroit News & Notes
The Pistons are in the midst of their longest losing streak of the season after dropping their fifth straight game on Friday – a 107-96 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. Jerami Grant led Detroit with 20 points as the Pistons finished with less than 100 points for the third straight contest.
Detroit has had a miserable start to the campaign, currently riding its third losing streak of four or more games. Grant has been perhaps the only bright spot, averaging 19.1 points per game in less than 33 minutes of action.
Frank Jackson (ankle) and Killian Hayes (thumb) are both probable for Sunday.
Los Angeles News & Notes
It took until triple overtime but the Lakers finally fell to the Sacramento Kings 141-137 in their most recent outing on Friday. LeBron James led the Lakers with 30 points and 11 assists for a double-double while Russell Westbrook dropped 29 along with 11 assists and 10 rebounds for a triple-double.
Los Angeles has fallen into a bit of a slump recently with just two wins over its last seven games. The main issue has been defense, with the team allowing 114.5 points against per game – ranking them 29th in the NBA.
James (abdominal) is questionable for Sunday while Anthony Davis (head) and Austin Reaves (hamstring) are both probable.
How Detroit Will Cover
The Pistons have had a rough go recently but they’ve been able to keep games close against top teams. They lost by just three points to the Golden State Warriors on November 19 and then fell to the Lakers by just six on November 23. The Pistons may be a long shot to win on Sunday, but they could feasibly cover the spread especially against a banged up Lakers squad.
How LA Will Cover
The Lakers haven’t had a ton of blowout wins this season but they do have two things going for them in this matchup: they own the sixth-best offense in the league (111.4 points per game) while the Pistons have the worst (98.6 points per game). If the Lakers offense stays hot and the Pistons stay cold, Los Angeles could easily cover.
